1: Table of Contents Mesopotamia Indus Valley Egypt China

2: Mesopotamia | 1. Mesopotamia was located between two rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates. 2. Mesopotamia means "city between two rivers". 3. Religious leaders controlled the government. 4. Mesopotamians were one of the first civilizations to use an irrigation system. 5. Mesopotamians were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many different gods. 6. The people of Mesopotamia used wheels and sails to make transportation easier. 7. The people of Mesopotamia wrote in cuneiform, which was wedge-shaped writing. 8. Mesopotamians didn't believe in the afterlife. Instead, the believed all good and bad people went underground after death and ate dirt. 9. Priests read the livers of sheep and chickens to see what the gods wanted for sacrifices. 10. Each city-state had its own god.

4: Indus Valley | 1. The Indus Valley is located between the Indus and Ganges Rivers. 2. The Himaylayan Mountain Range is located to the north of the Indus Valley. 3. The people of Indus were believed to be the first to use the grid system. 4. All major buildings were located in the center of the city to protect them from foreign attacks. 5. Hinduism was first created by the people of the Indus Valley. 6. From October to February, winter monsoons blew dry air westward across the country. 7. Mohenjo-Daro was the first city to create a plumbing system for every house. 8. We know so much about the Indus civilization due to spectacular findings at Mohenjo-Daro. 9. The game of chess was invented in the Indus civilization. 10. The birth of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus was invented in Indus.

6: Egypt | 1. People populated this area so heavily because of the Nile River. 2. Because of its location near the equator, Egypt has a very hot and dry climate. 3. Again, due to its location, Egypt is mostly desert. 4. Unlike most other rivers in the world, the Nile River flows south to north. 5. The pharoahs, which were the kings over Egypt, were viewed as gods. This is called theocracy. 6. Egyptians were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many gods. 7. One of their most important gods was the Sun god. 8.Egyptians wrote hieroglyphics on a material called papryus, which is much like today's paper. 8. Pharoahs were burried in huge chambers called pyramids. 9. People were ranked socially by their occupation.. 10. Egyptians are credited for inventing the lock and key system.

8: China | 1. Ancient civilizations formed in the area because of the Huang He and Yangtze Rivers. 2. Family was central, meaning the most important thing was respect for the parents. 3. People of ancient China were socially divided into nobles and peasants. 4. The earliest recorded dates of Chinese history are from the Shang Dynasty in around the thirteenth century. 5. People of China were polytheistic and believed in gods like the weather god, and the sky god. 6. Major inventions like printing, the compass, and gunpowder were invented by the ancient Chinese. 7. Rulers called emperors controlled Chinas government. They were supposed to be very influential and set good examples for the people. 8. Ancient people of China wrote in scripts, which are pictures or symbols that stand for different objects. 9. China is the worlds oldest known civilization. 10. Chinese people created one of the eight wonders of the world, The Great Wall of China.
