 Don't call me Walter

Nikki was born June 4, 1984, She came almost 3 weeks early. I had just gotten all my business wrapped up and was going to do a fancy room for you, since I didn’t get one done for Katey. As soon as I finished my last entry in my ledger, you arrived 2 hours later. Wayne wanted to name you Mickey, but with Katey’s middle name of Michelle and my cousins name of Mikie, we went with Nikki the shortened version of Nichole (because you always have to have a professional name in case you became a president). You were born 19 months after your sister Katey. Katey loved you right away. As a little girl Nikki, you loved to pretend, dress-up and dance. You loved stories and enjoyed playing alone, if Katey would ever let you. Thru the years you played piano, took art and swimming lessons. You loved to climb trees especially the fruit trees at Papa and Momma Dears house. Making soup and pies out of mud and leaves were also a favorite activity. Using leaves, rocks and of course dirt you made great creations. You were not much of a hugger but you loved sitting right on top of me when you needed some care. People would know you were around when you slid your cold feet under them when sitting on the couch. Your art career started at a very young age when a teacher friend of mine saw how much detail you could put in a figure, when most kids your age could only make a circle with legs sticking out from it. Fashion design started when you were around 5 and I gave you this large amount of light yellow green taffeta and you cut it and shaped it around you. Well the rest is history. Throughout school you were an exceptional student, getting a scholarship for the Art Institute on your senior year, as well as one from your program in the Sno-Isle Fashion Program. You were named one of the best artists at Monroe High in your year book. You had good friends from the time you were at the Maltby Co-op Preschool throughout your time in the Monroe School District and the Art Institute. You were also a great friend and mentor to your sisters, Katey and Heidi. Nikki you are a blessing and a treasure. You have amazed me and superseded any expectation I had of you. Your drive to be and do the best has gotten you far. No words can describe all the warm memories I have with you. You are a great joy, a wonderful companion, and fun. You have a lot to offer the world. Love, Mom and Dad too

Tuck in your bucks! | I'm not really a farmer you know | Makin' Mudbars | Horses, horses, horses, horses"

Wheeze the Juice | Blending is the secret

Niks - My identical foot and hand twin, the best mud pie maker I know. Remember that one time when we were playing with the dress up jewelry on the floor in my bedroom and you wanted the large hoop earring and I didn't want you to have it and then I threw it at you and broke your front tooth? Sorry about that. Remember that other time when we at Momadear and Papa's playing darts with those velcro pingpong balls and I broke that same tooth again. Sorry about that as well. Aside from those bad times we did and continue to have some glorious times. 1. Spying on Kari 2. Puddle jumping 3. Playing in our tree fort in Pullman and tree house at home. 4. Playing McDonald's 5. Building forts and playing on our magic carpets 6. Driving to high school everyday in the Aspire with our rad tunes 7. Dominating at Pictionary 8. Endless Eating Days - finding out who has the best almond croissants, macaroons, pizza, garlic shrimp on the north shore 9. Being the maid of honor in my wedding and planning my rad bachelorette party 10. Sleeping in the crack hole and singing "Kiss the Rain" The list could and will continue to go on and on... I am glad that as we have gotten older we have gotten closer. Thanks for always putting up with me as your bossy older sister. Happy Happy 30th Birthday! Love you! Katey

 Allergic? | to dancin'?

Nikki, As your brother-in-law I feel that I should warn you about certain things in life, pitfalls that befall everyone at some point. To that point, I will share a story. It was a sunny day on the North Shore of Oahu. After a long day of swimming and hiking, three travelers were very hungry. The local cuisine, while delicious, was becoming monotonous so this band of explorers chose to eat some exotic Mexican cuisine. They chose a plate of nachos which arrived blanketed in jalapeno peppers and also ordered some cool beverages to counter the spicy food and tropical climate. The male traveler quickly dug into the nachos, and with a mouthful of peppers, realized that something was amiss. These peppers were much hotter than expected! Quickly finishing his cool beer but receiving little comfort from the burn, our male hero expeditiously warned his comrades that "these peppers are not seeded." A courtesy, he thought, to save his companions the discomfort that he was currently experiencing. As it happened, his two comrades already knew the peppers were full of spicy seeds but did not seem to care. They immediately loosed a barrage of ridicule and mockery that continued in perpetuity. Even years hence the derision continues! The moral of this story...? Quit picking on me! Those peppers were spicy and I was just warning you guys! Will you ever let me forget this shame? Lets continue our rich and mockery-filled history of food adventures and general tomfoolery soon and often. Huzzah and happy birthday! With much spice and splendor, Jason

"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one." ~ C.S. Lewis

Spigot - Happy 30th Birthday For some unknown reason to me, people seem to think our nicknames for each other are weird, but to continue our weirdness, because people are just mad jealous they aren’t as cool as we are. I look forward to many more times of you jumping in my arms, and asking me to hold your foot. Thank you for being my right arm, as we learned the stool does make it easier to roll pie dough, and enjoying all the random things I feel the need to bake. I look forward to all the BBQing that we talk about happening, as well as these blue grass shows we will be going to see. I have a truck now so we will fit in more. I can’t wait to have more adventures with you picking raspberries is a must, but we will stay away from the freaky gold ones. I’m glad that you are my older sister you have been a great one. So to many more years of being a great older sister I look forward to and hope you have a lovely 30th Birthday Love you ~ Heidi/Clementine

 The Friendship | All Aboard

Best Friends | FOREVER | "It's yet another in a long series of diversions in an attempt to avoid responsibility" | "The question isn't 'what are we going to do,' the question is 'what aren't we going to do?"

Nikki, I'll never forget the time you described me as “a pair of designer jeans....unique”...or something like that. You get the idea. Now obviously, though it's completely out of context here, that really stuck with me. I feel like I am a better (more rad) person just knowing you and having your words stick to my brain like...something sticky. Glue probably. You are a dear friend and have been a loyal companion for a billion years. Your ability to go with the flow and not be freaked out by whatever horrific thing may come out of my unfiltered mouth hole and my appreciation for such a talent, is the inner workings of our friendship. One might refer to it as “the boiler room on the SS Nikki and Ana's Friendship.” Nay, the room like on Titanic where the guys are shoveling coal into the furnace and the water comes in and some of them are trapped inside. Is that a boiler room? It doesn't matter what it is because you know what I'm talking about. Because we are amazingly connected intellectually as proven over and over again by our superior reign over Compatibility. You don't know Jack? What's that you say? Um, I'm pretty sure we do know Jack and his ass died on the aforementioned Titanic. I would like to talk about the time we were waiting for Sarah in downtown Bellevue (da hood) to see Scream 4. (Because we're fucking awesome and we know a quality film when we want to see them). I want to write about how we were joking about seeing Taylor Thompson because I had seen an MHS bumper sticker and then sure as shit, we walk into the stationary store and see effing god damn Taylor Thompson just shopping for some paper all awkward and prophetic. I wanted to write about it and I did even though with our combined luck, she will read this or write her own page for you or you'll invite her over for some super weird reason and she'll read what I'm typing right now and arrest us for stalking (not stalking) her and for being able to predict the future (even though we totally can anyway) and it will be even more awkward. But who cares?! But enough of that madness, the last thirty years of our friendship (I knew you in utero, that's how compatible we are) have been a blast and you make me laugh the kind of laughs that only come from years of experience. Like laughing at each other through the bathroom stalls because we're reading advertisements on the back of the stall doors and keep correcting each other on what they said. Then come to realize the diabolical Irish pub we were at had put different advertisements in each stall! We still need to file that complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Seriously though, the more I think about the comment you made about the designer jeans those years ago, the more I realize that you, Miss Nikki, helped design those jeans with your skilled artistry and calming, fun-loving approach to life. Those are jeans that I will never throw away but that I will instead cherish and possibly even have Sarah make a quilt out of someday. What did one volcano say to the other volcano? | Ana

 The Artist

To My Dearest Bubbles, Thank you for watching “Friends” re-runs. Thank you for watching “Buffy” on repeat. Thank you for being Angela’s roommate thirteen years ago and allowing a lil ‘ole boy from Idaho befriend you and basically move in. Thank you for trips in the Jetta, that never had met a lint roller, to the beach or grab carrot cake. Thank you for keeping that creepy G.I. Joe head on your key chain and for always carrying a brick as your wallet. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your genuine heart. Most of all, thank you for being exactly you. You breathe new life and laughter into every single soul you meet and we are ALL lucky to call you a friend. Happy 30th Birthday Nikki! Love love love you so much! Love, Beef

"OMG Nikki, this hat is dangerously stylish"... "You're welcome!" | "Ladies leave yo man at home" | "Can someone please hold my hair...?"

"asphinctersayswhat?" | "Don't mess with perfection!"

Nikki, Here's wishing you a fantastic & fun-filled big 30! They say they're supposed to be our best years, right?! After all our fun adventures & hilarious moments in our 20s, I have no doubt we'll have even more memorable moments ahead of us. I think we were so fortunate to have gotten paired up together back at AIS. Even though we went through oh so many roommates, having you along for the ride made it one of the greatest experiences of my life! From good times at Mama's Mexican, calling 911 for a passed out Caitlin, singing/dancing to Chicago, trips to the Cheesecake Factory and coming home to witchcraft séances, we had some great times! There is no better roommate I could have had and am so thankful to have you as one of my dearest friends. I love you with all my heart and hope that the 30s bring you success, love & many new adventures, of course filled with lots of wine & delicious food! Love you! Ang

My Dearest Dearest Nikki, You would think writing a letter to you would be quite easy. But it's not.I need you sitting across from me so you can read my mind, finish my sentences and just know what I mean when I linger a bit too long...Know that I want to get sappy and focus on every emotional event that we have been with each other for, but I know...that you know...what I'm talking about...right? I'm not great with words. And how do i adequately describe how much someone has impacted my life and what that person means to me who is too awesome for normalcy!? I thought that I should make a list of all the things that we've done together. Japan, Lake Chelan, Canada, Rockstar Thursdays, which turned into Rockstar Tuesdays, that seem to be going back to Rockstar Thursdays, El Borracho Wednesdays, Happy Hour Whenever Days, palm readings, San Diego, spritzers on the roof, sandwiches, concerts, more concerts, flow charts, piñatas, tacos gringos, Halloweens, karaoke (see... this is when you would help me keep going with the fun if you were just sitting across from me). And after I started making the list I thought it would probably make more sense to add all those things to the list of things that we will do together in the future (you know, "The List") so that we can feel the sweetness of immediately getting to cross so many amazing things off that list! (If you were here, you would look at me and say, "YESSSSSS!" and we would giggle). Thank you for being exquisite! For being you. For allowing me to know your awesomeness. And in thirty more years, I know we will be drinking spritzers somewhere (maybe on our backyard deck...remember the one that connects us all together?) talking about important things, recalling important song lyrics and bad 80's tv shows, solving the world's problems, having impromptu dance parties, contemplating how your skin is still so perfect, and hoping our children are lucky enough to find friendships that are family. And heaven knows I'm gonna need you in thirty years, cause if I can't finish my own sentences now, imagine me at 60! I love you Nikki! Caitlin

Miss Nichole Elizabeth Klump, My dearest best friend. You've been with me through the good, the bad and the ugly cry. Through it all you have been my rock and my voice of reason. I could have never imagined a more amazing friend than you, and to think, it's been nearly 2 decades of awesome! While some of those years flew by and others felt like they drug on forever, I never could have survived them without you by my side (or a text/phone call away). It was a fateful day back in the 90's when our mothers met walking, and soon after that decided we should be friends. Though I knew you previously, (obvi, you rode my bus) I always thought you were too cool for me. ;) I was partially right, you are pretty freaking cool. We became fast friends and were so inseparable that people to this day think of us as "those girls that were attached at the hip." I mean, come on, there was even a show named after us! ;) I'm not gonna lie, I have had many "best friends" in my life, but I never truly understood the phrase until I found you. You are a friend that is always there for a laugh or a cry. You listen without judging. You never try to one up the people around you, but instead give relatable feedback and advice. And not only are you an incredible friend to the people around you, but you are always up for a new adventure or just a kick ass time with a board game and a bottle of wine. I know you're my people because you too think popcorn and wine is an acceptable dinner. You are one of my favorite people and I cherish the fact that you understand me like no one else. I sometimes feel bad for other people that don't know us well enough and can't keep up with our random conversations back and forth. You are the only one who I can say, "remember that movie we saw that one time at that place with the girl, you know," and know exactly what I'm talking about because you know how my brain got there. And while we may not have exactly the same taste in music, movies, and pop culture, you always know my crazy references. For instance: Ben & Noel, OTH & CMM, JVDB - okay... all that comes to mind right now are things associated with the CW network. ;) Although our tastes may not always exactly align, we do have a shared appreciation for cheesy 80's/90's/00's movies. You are the only one I know that loves Ferris Bueller's Day off as much as I do. Remember the time we watched it at my house and the tape broke? I'm pretty sure we immediately went to Target to replace it so we could finish watching. I will also never forget the fateful day that we decided to go see Can't Hardly Wait in the theater, not knowing that it would be a quotable movie classic for years to come. You are the only one I know who was willing to watch that movie over and over with me, and although it's been awhile since I've seen it, we could probably sit down and quote the whole thing.

There are many things that not only make you a good friend, but make you my best friend. I've listed some of them above however, here are some more: You make it possible for me to drive without a GPS, as long as you're in the passenger seat. You not only understand the crazy that is me, but you get my crazy family and can appropriately throw in a "oh Jean," or "oh Gary." You can always tell me the best places to eat, and when we go out no matter who orders what, you are always down to split the check. You have way better taste in music than me, but will still rock out to a 90's/00's jam session in the car *cough*boybands*cough.* You are always there for me during a life crisis with an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and some form of booze with which to drown my sorrows. Finally, I can't leave out that you can always rock a pair of crazy high heels. So much so that when you wear flats I'm always surprised at how much shorter you are than me. ;) You are amazingly smart and talented and I am always in awe (and slightly jealous) of what you are capable of doing. I swear everything you touch is magical - I mean who else would have come up with the cray/yolo/hola baby onesie concept? You should also be able to tell by this book that not only are you an amazing friend, but also an incredible daughter and sister. We are all so lucky to have you as part of our lives. I guess at this point it is pretty obvious that I could go on and on forever, however I don't want to make this a chapter book, so I'll end with this. You are amazing in so many ways and beautiful inside and out. I love you like a sister, and no matter where life takes us, you will always be my family. And although we didn't make it to Europe for our 30th's I still believe it's in the cards for the future. :) One more thing, "You know who else I like that didn't get much play? Velma from Scooby-Doo. She was cool. She was a hip, hip lady." XOXO, your BFF - S

I loathe the bus. There has to be a more dignified mode of transportation. | Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude. | What's with you? Yesterday you were normal and today you're like the Chinese guy from the Karate Kid. What's with you today? | If somebody doesn't believe in me, I can't believe in them. | Your mom puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit? | You know what they say about women and trolley cars. There's plenty of 'em in the sea.

I can't feel my legs, I HAVE NO LEGS! | You guys got nothing to worry about, I'm a professional. | Just so you know, judging from my little experience, I kind of believe in fate. It just works in really fucked up ways sometimes. | Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear.

 THE FRIEND WALL | Caitlin | Ana | Angela | Katey | Zach | Sarah | Heidi

OF TONS OF HOT GAS | Maybe | you see the salt on this pretzel? | look at the stars | some people, they say | THEY SAY THE STARS | ARE BILLIONS | But I think maybe, | AND HE'S JUST | it's just god's salt | & BILLIONS | WAITING TO | EAT US
