FC: By: Annie McGinnis and Jordan Alnemer | What's a Cell?

These are blood cells under a microscope | a cell is the basic unit of life

Schleiden (right)said that cells make up plants. | Hooke (left) was the first person to describe how cells looked, like "CELLulae."

Schwann (right) said that cells make up animals. | Virchow(left) stated that cells are formed by old cells.

Cell Theory | All living things are made of cells | Cells are the basic units of structure and function in an organism | New cells are produced from existing cells

Cells are in our food, our hair, and even the grass we walk on every day!

Eukaryotic cells are plant and animal cells, which have more organelles such as mitochondria, golgi apparatus and a nucleus. | Eukaryotic | Eukaryotic

Prokaryotic cells are bacteria and fungi, which have no genetic material. | Prokaryotic | Prokaryotic

 Animal Cell | Plant Cell

Plant cells do not have lysosomes, centrioles, or flagella, which animal cells do. Animal cells do not have chloroplasts or cells walls. Plant cells have a large central vacuole, while animal cells have many, small vacuoles. | Cells are fun

Flagellum: Allows prokaryotic cell to move. Golgi Apparatus: Modifys, sorts and pakages proteins; stored in cell. Cysosomes: Contains a cells digestive enzyme. Nucleus: DNA; Communicates with cell. Microtubules:Shapes cell; helps organelles move around in cell.

 Plant Cells! | Cells!

Smooth ER: Creates and stores proteins while breaking down toxins. Chloroplasts: Supplies energy needed to power plant cells. Ribosome:Cellular structures that make proteins. Mitochondrion: Produces the cells power Nucleolus: where ribosomes are partially assembled.

 Animal Cells! | Cells!

Cell Membrane: Decides what goes in and out of the cell; protects cell and its organelles!

Homeostasis: the process of keeping your internal body stable.
