4: How We Met | I was working as a cashier at the Lion's Den in the Hub. Ron was substituting for Bill Edwards one night and we struck up a conversation. I gave Ron a ride home that night. Sometime later I mentioned that I had finished painting my apartment. He said that he would like to see it so we made a date for him to come over to see it. However; my parents came over that evening and our date was postponed until the next week. Ron came over for dinner the following Sunday, May 30th 1972. It was amazing how easily we could talk to each other. Ron made a date with me for June 10th, but he later broke it. We did write that summer and the following September we began going together very seriously. I guess we had what might be called a "whirlwind" courtship. I saw Ron everyday and it seemed as if we had known each other for years. On October 6th, 1972, Ron told me that he loved me and asked me to wear his class ring. The following Sunday, October 8th, 1972, we decided to get married to get married. It seemed as if we just began to talk about "if" we got married and then Ron asked me. On October 10th, 1972 we went down to pick out a ring. We told our parents about our plans but did not tell anyone else until I got my ring a few weeks later. It was awful difficult keeping our secret because we wanted to tell the whole world. ~RuthAnnHennig
