S: Riley Family - Summer 2009
BC: Summer 2009
The summer of 2009 was so much fun for our family. We started in Houston, TX, traveled to SLC, Utah and made our way through Southern and Central California where we visited lots of fun places, but more importantly, lots of COUSINS! Walk in our flip flops as we re-live the summer of '09
The day after school was out, we packed up the kids and visited our cousins, the Grosebeck's, in Houston, Texas. They were wonderful hosts and our family had a fabulous time.
First stop, the Space Center in Houston. We saw some amazing artifacts and fun exhibits. | Davis and Conor posing for a picture | Jake showed us how they sleep in space | Conor and Aubrey hit it off and became great friends the rest of the trip.
Next, we were off to the Children's Museum. It was such a hit. The kids had a blast because there was so much to do. Between the ''kitchen'' where the kids could create meals, to the art studio to create the next masterpiece, they were busy from the time we got there until we left. Brayden loved the rock wall and Aubrie was an anchor on TV. The fun never ended.!
One of the yummiest places we visited was 'The Chocolate Bar' where you could find everything chocolate. Anything from chocolate ice- cream flavors, to chocolate cake. They even had chocolate covered dog bones.! | Brayden eating chocolate cake | Davis giving a "thumbs up on the ice cream | Mitch even enjoyed this family time
Conor and Aubrie eating a brownie on a stick and ice cream | Hey, look, there's Wil. Amazing how food brings the family together.!!
Conor feeding the fake snake cotton candy | Dallan crawling with the fish | Brayden, Dallan, Jake and Davis checking out the animals
The Houston Zoo was pretty cool...I mean HOT. The kids were dying of thirst, but all the electricity had gone out in the park, so there was no way to buy any concessions. We couldn't even buy bottled water from the vending machine. We waited and almost passed out until FINALLY the electricity came back on and we were able to purchase none other than water and cotton candy. We have a new appreciation for electricity now. | Aunt Karene | Dallan sized hands compared to gorilla sized hands
Galveston, TX | We headed out to Galveston for a day at the beach. It was a blast, We walked around downtown and saw so much damage left over from Hurricane Ike from the previous year. This was the first time all the boys had enjoyed a day at the beach. The consensus: We LOVE the beach...
 Next stop... Downtown Aquarium
It was a fun stop, but the best part was the tiger. What? A tiger at the aquarium? Yes, evidently it is the most ''aquatic'' of the cats. Who would have known?
Goooooo ASTROS We may not cheer for the Astros any other time, but we were fans of the air conditioned stadium in the middle of the summer heat. The boys, like always, were fans of the FOOD.
Picking Blackberries | Every year the Groesbeck's have a tradition of picking blackberries. This year we got to join them and it was a ton of fun. When we were all done, we ended up with about 30 lbs of blackberries. What did we do with all those blackberries? We made 33 pints of jam, 2 blackberry pies and froze several gallons of berries for future smoothies. Oh, and we probably ate a few along the way as well. | Before the pick | Mmmmmm
Our lot of 30 lbs worth
My cowboy | yummy cowoy lunch
The last place to visit was the George Ranch. It was an amazing working ranch that covered about 25,000 acres of land. There was so much to see...crocodiles, real cowboys, feeding the pigs. We even got to visit the ''Davis Mansion'', Davis was sure that is where he belonged. We even had a ''real cowboy'' lunch. Well, everybody but Conor...he had rolls because that is all he would eat. | Real Cowboy | pickin' corn for the hogs | Wagon ride
On our way down to the family reunion, we decided to stop in and have a fun day at Lagoon. It was the kids first trip there. It doesn't compare to Disneyland, but it was a quick fix.
Another stop was at Temple Square. We enjoyed taking the kids around and looking at church history spots. My favorite is the boys and Ryan in front of the restoration of the priesthood statue. It makes me appreciate what amazing men these boys will become. | In front of the SLC Temple doors
 Downtown Salt Lake City
chasing the tail | water balloon toss | Riley Reynolds | Logan Reynolds & Gideon Johnson | Dallan lost...
This was our last family reunion before Grandma Ruby passed away. We had such a good time playing games, BBQ-ing and even watching the fireworks for 4th of July. Great memories and great family. | Peanut Gallery | Dallan lost... | Rhett | On your mark...
 Family Reunion 2009
While we were together we took family pictures with Grandma Ruby. These are special memories for all.
After leaving Utah we headed down to Southern California to spend time with more cousins. We decided it would be fun to go to Disneyland for a couple of days. As always, we had a BLAST...and wish we could have spent more time there.
Of course we had to visit the characters, and Pluto and Mickey were two favorites. | We love bonding with cousins and what better place than DISNEYLAND
 fun in the sun
 Tyler | Micah
Another fun place we got to visit was Laguna Beach. Doesn't matter what beach we went to the kids had a blast! Body boarding, looking for crabs and digging for shells were amongst the fun activities! | digging for crabs
After visiting cousins in Southern California, we headed north to Reedley to visit Grandma and Grandpa Riley and more cousins... We had lunch by the river, swam and swam some more. Mom and grandma canned peaches and tomatoes and we played and played. Can't wait to go back for more SUMMER FUN! | Davis collected rock, but had to leave them there | Yummy, watermelon | Conor's rock collection
skipping rocks | Drew and Dallan | Dallan skipping rocks
