The Car Crash - Page Text Content

I dedicate this book to my grandma, who I love with all my heart.

One evening, my grandma was driving to the airport in Hilton Head, South Carolina. My grandpa was following right behind her in a rental car they were going to return. When they got to the left turn she was supposed to make she turned, and all of a sudden a truck crashed into the passenger side of her car. BOOM! CRASH! My grandpa saw the whole thing. I felt so bad for him because he had to sit through the whole thing, but he couldn't do anything about it.

Soon the rescue helicopter came to the scene and took my grandma to the Trauma Center. Luckily my grandma was still alive, for now. “She needs to go to the emergency room right away!” one doctor said. “Let’s be on our way. We’re wasting time!” When they got to the emergency room the doctor examined her and took some notes. “Can you fix the bones that broke?” asked my grandpa, who drove to the trauma center to be with my grandma. “Yes, but it will take quite a long time. She broke more than a couple of bones. She broke twenty-four bones,” the doctor replied. “She needs to have surgery and take medicine for her pain. Eventually her bones will mend.” “So that means she will be ok?” my grandpa asked. “Yes, she will be better,” the doctor said. “I think,” he whispered.

My family and I visited her a lot and she seemed to be getting better. One day she even walked a thousand steps! That was a lot for her, especially in her condition. She had to wait a few months for the doctors to decide if she could go home or not. “Cross your fingers that she’s better guys!” I said to my family when we were waiting to get news. My grandpa called us on the phone and told us that he was allowed to take my grandma home. “WAHOOOOO!” my parents and I yelled. We were all really happy she was better! I think that my grandmother is really tough because lots of people would never drive again after a car crash. Some wouldn’t even get in a car. But she got a new car and has already started driving again. I think she’s very careful when making left turns. She was before, but now more than ever after that incident.
