1: The Department of Transportation Secretary:Anthony Foxx

2: On July 2nd 2013 Anthony Foxx became the United States secretary of transportation. | He leads an agency of more than 55,000 employees and has a $70 billion dollar budget that manages maritime,air, and surface transportation.

3: The department of transportation was established on October 15th 1966 by an act of Congress. The official day of operation was on April 1st 1967.

4: The purpose of the department of transportation is to ensure a safe, efficient, fast, accessible, and convenient transportation system. And to meet the needs of the American people both today and in the future.

5: The department of transportation helps maintain and develop the nations transportation systems and infrastructure. They carry out planning that supports the movement of Americans by trains, planes, ships, cars, and trucks. They also play a key role in providing funds to lower levels of government to improve the transportation of Americans. And they even regulate commercial airlines and airports in an effort to promote the industry and ensure the safety of the passengers.

6: The department of transportation (DOT) develops, implements, and enforces regulations that govern the use of Americas roads and highways, railways and seaports, air corridors and airports. To help improve transportation programs throughout the country they make billions of dollars in federal grants each year to state and local authorities to help improve transportation programs.

7: Dot wants to incorporate convenient and safe walking and bicycling facilities into transportation projects.

8: Dot encourages transportation agencies to improve their walking and bicycling networks, including linkages to transit. | Dot has the responsibility to improve conditions and opportunities for walking and bicycling into their transportation system.
