FC: The great depression author, Zakk Barr

Monument dedicated to the many lives during the great depression. 1929 - 1938 The great depression started and ended on those years.

Many years ago in th 1920's our great lands fell into what we called the great depression. The great depression was a time of great hardships for all the people who lived in big cities. During the great depression the stock market crashed causing the great depression and making people desperate to get their money back.

People have lost their jobs because of this and are forced to live on the streets begging for money and even begging for jobs.

Imagine yourself living on the streets with no home ,no food ,no water, no money, wearing only the clothes you have on your back. You would be starving, cold, and you would just be like these people just hoping that a miracle would happen.

Families are also affected like this family forced to live in a tent and that the children have to suffer as well. To see such things would make you want to help these poor people badly.

Families suffer greatly unable to take care of their children and themselves. Families have to think on how they can support the children and themselves so that they can live on happily. But how could you do that if you were unable to get a job? Think about it without a job you can't afford the things to keep you family in a house and give them food water and clothes.

Mothers are affected deeply during this time they are always worried on how they will be able to feed and take care of their children as they use to. This woman is an example just by looking at her face you can tell that she is worried about her children deeply as she wants to take care of them but can't do to the great depression preventing her and her husband to get money to buy food, water, and clothes. Ask yourself this, if you where in her shoes what would you do to help your children?

People even left the cities to find a new home far away from the cities. To leave your home by force like this is undeniably hurtful to you and your family for you spent your lives in the city you have grown up in.

People even lived on the road thinking that there will be no place for them to go to take care of their family.

During this time many people where not able to obtain food so they had to ration food for all the people. They always went in lines to get their food but not everyone will be able to get some and these lines would be about possibly 2 to 5 miles of people just waiting to get food.

Many of the foods that they only had in the great depression was soup and bread. Because of the great depression they had to limit food supplies to these two things and they rationed it to the people around the city.

Adults aren't the only ones affected by the great depression children of many ages where affected by this harmful event. Their parents loosing their jobs and homes effected the kids so much they can barely live on the things they have for a short period of time.

Imagine that these children where yours during the great depression. You would do everything in your power to try to keep these children of yours living no matter the cost.

Imagine seeing one of your children look like this child. You would want to help this child but because of the great depression there is nothing you can do for all the medical care that this child could get this child would never get it.

People would live in broken down houses just to survive the weather. If I was these people I would do the same thing if it meant survival.

People sometimes used parts of a train like a freight car to convert it into a home they can live in.

African Americans also suffered as deeply as all the other races. They were practically forced out of the city just to live in the small houses outside of it. Because people still thought discrimination was still OK they thought this would be the best action for all of them to be happier.

Many of the men in the city went around selling themselves off to employers so they can make money to support their lives and their families lives.

During the great depression you would usually see many men at an employment office trying to sell themselves to the employer the best they can.

Agriculture out side of the cities was having a big toll on the people who had to grow and sell their fruits and vegetables. Because of there not being as much food for all the people around the city people depend on farmers to grow food for them.

The great depression ended when all the money was turned into a balanced budget and taxes were lowered as new freer markets open up. With all of this everyones lives have finally come back to the way it came and unemployment has finally lowered down. With this everyone can gain money to feed, shelter, and clothe their families and themselves making it a better future for the years to past.
