BC: "This story is heartfelt and it shows you not everybody is the same. I would recommend this book to everybody because it shows how life was and how life is. It also explains how people are different from others. This book is one for the classroom." Jerrica Hensley 3rd Period

 Table of Contents Summary...............pg2 Analysis.................pg3-9 Quotes..................pg10-11 Diary Entry.............pg13-14 Lyrics...................pg15-16
Summary The main characters are Scout, Jem, and Atticus. Scout and Jem are trying to learn about Boo Radley. Boo is a man who never gets to be seen and everybody thinks he's mean. Everybody in Maycomb is at the courthouse. It is during the great depression so this is the time for racism. That's exactly why the case on trial is important. Tom Robinson is on trail for rapping a white women and he is a black man.
Analysis Scout First Jem Second AtticusThird
Scout Scout is the girl who doesn’t mind being different. She’s the little tomboy who runs around wearing pants instead of skirts. She doesn’t like the way people are treating Atticus because of the whole Tom Robinson case. She isn’t scared to stand up for what she believes in. She’s not like most kids in Maycomb. She understands that things are not right and it really scares her. Her knowing these things she wishes they will be changed.
Jem Jem is the boy who is adventurous and tries not to act scared. At first he’s just another kid until he starts looking at the situations around him. He’s coming of age and he’s trying to grow up. One thing he does is try to keep his family safe and tries to teach Scout that it’s time to grow up and become a girl. He understands that he’s growing up and it’s time to take responsibility for his actions. Just like Scout he understands things are not right in Maycomb. He also understands there’s no hope for Tom Robinson even though he doesn’t understand it.
Atticus Atticus is not like other fathers. He keeps to himself and doesn’t ask for anything in return. He treats his kids as if they are grown ups and he talks to them like they are one. He is really intelligent and respectful. He treats people like he would want to be treated. He also does not believe that Tom Robinson is guilty. A lot of people are treating him differently because of this and he doesn’t really care he’s taking it like a man. He understands that things in Maycomb needs to change but also knows that a lot of people are hard headed and they will probably stay the same. All together Atticus is a good father and a good man.
Quotes "My shell is not that hard, child. I'm just a baptist."-Miss Maudie page 44 I liked this quote because it's talking about somebodies religion. It's saying she's religious but not insane religious. "She earned it, so don't feel too remorseful."- Atticus page 87 This is saying that Scout earned when uncle Jack romped on her. This page was pretty funny "Beautiful my hind foot! If it freezes tonight it'll carry off all my azaleas!"-Miss Maudie page 65 When I saw this I laughed. Shes talking about the snow messing up her flowers it made me think of my grandma.
"We decided that it would be best for you to have some feminine influence. It won't be many years, Jean Lousie, before you become interested in clothes and boys-"- Aunt Alexandria page 127 I chose this quote because It's showing how time is going by and the kids are growing up. I don't think Scout liked this too much though.
Diary (Scout) I looked around it looked like everybody in Maycomb was in the court house. I was just there so I wouldn’t be left out. As I looked around it looked like people was either sad or mad. When they finally began Bob Ewell went to the stand first. His a mean old man and he acted very rude when Atticus was trying to be nice; I wanted to beat him up. Mayella was just I don’t know how to explain. She shouted at Atticus for saying Miss Mayella and yes ma’am.
Diary Continued I didn’t really understand the questions that were being asked but I tried to listen very carefully. What really got me is when Tom Robinson came to the chair. I knew he wasn’t guilty but nobody else could see it; I reckon they’re blind. Atticus told us why Tom couldn’t be guilty and it took me a second but I know that it’s the truth. He can’t use his arm and the injuries to Miss Mayella were more caused by a left handed person. All I have left to say is why can’t people just believe Atticus?
Lyrics Taylor Swift- Eyes Open Everybody's waiting Everybody's watching Even when you're sleeping Keep your eye, eyes open The tricky thing is Yesterday we were just children Playing soldiers, just pretending Dreaming dreams with happy endings In backyards, Winning battles with the wooden swords But now we've stepped into a cruel world Where everybody stands up, And keeps score Keep your eyes open Everybody's waiting For you to breakdown Everybody's watching To see the fallout Even when you're sleeping, sleeping Keep your eye, eyes open
Lyrics Continued I picked this song because right now everybody is waiting and watching on this case. Also a lot of people have to keep their eyes open because of this case. The world is growing up so they don't get to play in the backyard like the rest of the children. In this book everybody is watching to see Atticus fail. I believe that this song matches the book to a t. Also the melody helps you picture curious things happening just like you would in To Kill A Mockingbird. So this is why I picked this song.
