S: Tygerson Clark 2010-2011 Kindergarten: A.B. Combs Elementary, Raleigh, NC
FC: My year in Kindergarten at A.B. Combs Elementary in Raleigh, NC 2010-2011
Mom returned to her job at NC State. At the end of July, we drove from Cheyenne, WY back to Raleigh, NC. This was our new house 4921 Liles Rd | Kylan and I shared a bedroom. We both love trains and balls so our room was decorated with Thomas trains and railroad signs as well as sports balls.
We were moving into our house over my Birthday and dad was back in Wyoming. So when dad came home for a weekend visit, we celebrated my Birthday on August 13. With my Birthday money from Grandparents, I bought the new Hiro train.
Kylan and I make music on the Xylophone. | Enjoying a Saturday afternoon with all the family. | Mom and dad found a playset to put in our backyard. | Kylan and I loved playing in the fort, sliding and swinging. | BUGS! One morning we woke up to find a large beetle dead on it's back downstairs. Kylan and I sat and watched it for a while. Then I took care of it by flushing it down the toilet. That is what I did every morning when I would find the dead beetles. | Around the house
I had been waiting to start school all summer. The day finally came when I could go to school, but it was only a 1/2 day for testing on Friday August 25. Mom walked me to my classroom and then was there to pick me up after lunch. I read 190 site words and was ready to read more. I could not believe I had to wait another 5 days for my official first day of class.
September 1, 2010 was my first official day of Kindergarten. I was so excited I ran almost the entire way to school. I had to keep encouraging mom and dad to move faster. My teacher Mrs. White was at the door to great me. Our classroom theme for the year was Circus.
Over Labor Day weekend, we went to Hilton Head. I missed my 3rd day of school, but I love going to the beach. Our first morning there, we went right to the beach after we woke up. I found shells on the beach and mom found a sand dollar in the water.
On this visit, there were lots of starfish on the beach every day. It was really cool to pick them up and watch their little feet move. I liked helping the starfish by picking them up from the sand and throwing them back into the ocean.
On this trip we rented a "double decker" bike. I rode with mom and Kylan rode with Dad. We rode our bikes all over the island. On this day, we rode our bikes down the beach into Harbortown to go visit the Lighthouse. We climbed the 114 steps to the top. | Back at our hotel, Kylan and I enjoyed playing on the patio - drumming on the table and making faces at mom and dad through the window.
Our last morning at Hilton Head, we walked down to the beach to take some pictures.
Checking my dog into the Vet | Grooming my dog. | Taking an X-ray of my dog | Bathing my dog | Picking up my dog's prescription | Examining my dog
Our class was asked to decide what kind of workplace we wanted to transform our classroom into. After our class came up with about 5 ideas, we voted. The majority voted for an animal hospital. Then we had to come up with a name for our Hospital. We decided on Magical Pet Animal Hospital. We spent about a week putting together all the tools we would need to open our Magical Pet Hospital. Our Parents were invited to the Grand Opening on Wednesday October 20, 2010. The classroom was transformed into an Animal Hospital for the day.
On the last Friday of October, we had no school for teacher work day. Patience and I with our mothers spent the morning at the NC Zoo in Asheboro. It was a great fall day to go see the animals at the zoo.
Friday the 29th, we went to our Ward Trunk-or-Treat. I was a train engineer driving Hiro. I loved going car to car collecting candy. My friend Patience joined me at the end. She dressed up as Daphne from Scooby-Doo
On Saturday the 30th, Christin and Robert invited us to their neighborhood Halloween party. We had hot dogs, a scavenger hunt and did a costume parade around the neighborhood led by a fire rescue truck. We returned to Robert & Christin's neighborhood for Halloween. My friends Patience and Chloe joined us. We did a big circle around the block and filled our buckets with lots of candy.
I love trains. My brother Kylan loves trains too. For Kylan's 2nd Birthday, we had pictures dressed as train engineers.
We love ice cream and Goodberry's is one of our favorite places to get ice cream - but they make frozen custard. We bought pumpkin custard and enjoyed it in an ice cream cone.
Marbles is one of our favorite places to go play. It is a large children's museum with great interactive centers. On this night December 18, I enjoyed playing in the lemonade stand.
For our holiday workshop at school, I had to complete a job application. I was assigned to gift wrapping for the week. I helped make the gift bags we would use to wrap our gifts. Based on my work each day, I earned pennies. On Friday I was given real pennies to shop for my gifts. | After selecting gifts for mom, dad, Kylan, Papa, Grandma Clark and uncle Jeremy, Patience and I waited our turn in line to pay for our gifts with the pennies we earned during the week. Then we went out in the hall to wrap the gifts.
For a special treat before Christmas break we made Gingerbread houses at school. Mom and dad were able to come and help. | December 20, 2010
While Grandma Clark visited before Thanksgiving, we put up our Christmas tree and took some family pictures.
Our friends the Righters and Winklers joined us for a Christmas Eve dinner. I had fun playing with my friends Dylan and Hyrum. Christmas morning I woke up just after 7 AM. Dad was already downstairs with Kylan. We walked into the living room as a family. "Wow look at all the presents." I took my time handing out presents and unwrapping mine and Kylan's. Kylan loved the Thomas book and new Thomas trains we received from Grandma and Papa Clark. | After presents, Kylan and I ate Lucky Charms, and played with our trains. As a family, we watched the Polar Express and had hot chocolate with marshmellows. Then we went for a walk before bed.
The day after Christmas, I woke up to find it had snowed during the night. I ran into tell mom and dad, "It snowed! We can have a snowball fight! Come on!" | After breakfast, I bundled up and went out the front door to wait for dad. Dad and I attempted to make a snowman. When we could not get the snow to hold together, we just had a snowball fight. Kylan finally decided to come out and we went in the back to play on our playset.
I spent most of the day outside playing with Kylan in the back and having snowball fights with dad in the front. We received well over the 6 inches they predicted. It was a great Snow Day!
One night for a fun activity, Kylan and I made bubbles in the house. I tried to see how big I could make the bubbles. Then I would try to catch them on the bubble wand. I made some pretty big bubbles.
For New Year's Eve, Kylan and I received new Thomas PJs. We watched the Raleigh fireworks from the parking lot of Bright Horizons. They were so cool!
Enjoyed making Paper plane Valentine's for the grandparents and preparing Nerd Valentine's for friends at school. Loved the Valentine's from my friends and the card from Yahya. | Mom made Chocolate trains and Grandma Clark sent paper trains. I also got a new tie and mom made a book of my Snow Story.
At school, we read the book "If you give a Mouse a Cookie". As part of our activity that week, me made Mouse ears and a large chocolate chip cookie. I was excited to show mom what we had made. Kylan was excited to have a picture with me holding Percy.
One of my jobs around the house is to clean up pine cones, sticks and stickerballs in the back yard. On this day in April, I decided to do this by sitting in the back of the dump truck, scooting around and putting the yard waste in the front of the truck.
After church, Kylan and I found baskets of surprises: a new Thomas train, marble maze, a "Cars" piggy bank and a new Thomas computer game. After we changed out of our church clothes, we were playing downstairs when I looked out the back door. I saw eggs in the grass. I exclaimed, "Hey look there are eggs outside. The Easter Bunny came. Can we go outside?" Mom got baskets for us and Kylan and I enjoyed finding eggs all over the backyard. They had jelly belly's and new cars inside.
Each class runs about 10 minutes around the track. After a one minute warmup stretch lead by the Chick-fil-a Cow, all the Kindergarten classes lined up. Each time I completed a lap, I grabbed a stick. Mom ran with me. I finished with 6 sticks - about 1 mile. After our run, we got a frozen pop. | Friday: April 29, 2011
Memorial Day we headed to NC Zoo where our friend Ashlee was celebrating part of her birthday. We love going to the zoo to see the animals and play in the helicopter.
Kylan and I earned tickets for a Day out with Thomas. The Winklers joined us for our weekend to Tweetsie Railroad out by Boone, NC. It was a mom and sons weekend. Mom rented a minivan and after my end of the year program at school, we all piled in for the 3 hour drive to the "mountains". After checking into our hotel, we went to the Tweetsie Railroad park just in time for our 5:00 train ride on Thomas. Kylan was a little overwhelmed to see Thomas, but soon was so excited and we loved the train ride.
The next day, Saturday, we arrived at the park right after it opened and enjoyed the amusement park rides it had to offer: Twister, chair lift, airplanes, boats, so many fun rides. We also enjoyed another ride on Thomas and met Sir Topham Hat. | Friday and Saturday - June 3-4, 2011
