1: Definition of a Hurricane: | Hurricanes are a severe type of tropical storm. They are like tropical cyclones that occur over oceans. | How they are Formed: | They form over tropical waters in areas of high humidity, light winds, and warm sea surface temperatures. "Hurricane Season" runs from June, until November.
2: Damage: | Hurricanes can cause very intense flooding, extremely high tides, uprooted trees, torn-down power lines, and can even cause tornadoes to spawn in neighboring states. It can cause the deaths of many people.
3: Example: | One of the worst hurricane storms was Hurricane Katrina. The final death toll was 1,836 dead. It was so powerful, that it was more like 4 storms together (at least). It was the 2nd strongest hurricane ever recorded in the US. It effected 90,000 square miles.
4: Safety Precautions | Have a family survival plan, be prepared to evacuate when officials tell you to, make arrangements for elderly, identify a friend or family member in a non- threatened area. plan what you'll do with your pets, and you can also make a hurricane evacuation kit.
