FC: World War I

PETER S. MARTIN BORN MAY 3, 1892 | This is my scrapbook of memories when I was in WWI. I was in the US Army. | I was proud to serve my country and glad we won the Great War. | I live in Michigan with my family, wife Emma and daughter Anna

My journal and picture scrapbook of the major events during WWI and some of my personal events. | My buddies and I before going to the trenches

Archduke Franz Ferdinand Assassinated June 28, 1914 | The Austrian Leader and his wife were murdered on their way back from a town hall reception in Sarajevo | SPARK OF THE GREAT WAR

Germany used aircrafts to attack our aircrafts while in the air. The planes were originally equipped with machine guns but then had other weapons like deflector plates added. The pilots flied in circles and swirls to avoid getting hit by bullets and whoever had more than 8 "kills" would be called a Flying Ace! | August 28, 1914 Germany | DOGFIGHT

Trench Warfare | We dug out the ground to make bunkers to protect us from getting hit by big artillery. It was a way for more fluid offensive attacks. | It was a way of using close quarters combat other than bayonet's. We used barbed wire and poisoned gas. It was a good place for our wounded soldiers to get care. We had to watch out for rats and lice though!

Germans used new technology that I had never seen before! It was very frightening to Britain and France. This is a Flamethrower. It kept all enemies off of the front lines. It evolved more and more as time went on. People that used this weapon could raid the enemies lines. Then it was put on tanks. | October 1914 France

~Lusitania~ Sinks! May 7, 1915 In the Irish Channel Shocks people all around the World! | My cousin Jerry was on that ship. This is why we must defeat the Germans. They destroyed all of our meat and supplies. Out of 1959 people on board, my cousin was one of the 1198 people that died.

I entered the War because of President Wilson. Before this, we were all trying to stay neutral. Because of the sinking of the Lusitania, we entered World War I. We used strategies like the blockade, and submarine warfare against the Germans. "This will be the War that ends all Wars!" said President Wilson. | April 6, 1917 US joins France & Britain

MY MEMORY BOOK Peter S. Martin Born May 3, 1892 US Army | The day I said goodbye to my family. My wife Emma and my sweet daughter Anna. I will be entering the army and I will miss my family. This is by far the hardest time of my life. | April 23, 1917

I found this flier all around town. It gave me the inspiration to get more woman to join the army and enlist for the army. It really showed me that if one girl does it first then all the other girls can do it too.

My cartoon is showing how powerful the British army was. They are punching Europe .

The Treaty of Versailles June 28, 1919 | It was a peace treaty of the war that conceded Germany and Germany's land and territory. It also made German admit defeat! It took away about 13.5% of Germany's 1914 territory. Today people still think that the document supported the rise of Nazi's. The treaty was divided into 15 sections. The lands that Germany had taken over, were divided between other countries.

 our parade home | May 14, 1919
