FC: Cat Tien National Park | 2012

1: Buttress roots as shown in the photo are common sightings at Cat Tien National Park where the trees are shallowly rooted due to nutrition-poor, rocky, rain forest soils.

5: Fungi play an essential role in tropical rainforests like Cat Tien National Park. They recycle nutrients for the tropical soils which are usually very poor in plant nutrients and frequently acidic. | Fungi appear in many different and unique forms, with many usually seen growing out of dead branches.

9: Lianas (above) and Epiphytes (left) are characteristic of tropical forests. Epiphytes grow on the outside of trees and other plants. They include mosses, ferns, and orchids.

10: There are many species in the genus Fiscus, amongst which Stranglers are a common sight.

11: Bamboo forest makes up a significant proportion of the Cat Tien National Park and although it is much less diverse than primary forest, it does support a certain amount of wildlife and holds the soil.

12: Bau Sau or Crocodile Lake, home to various species of fauna and flora, plays an important role in conserving the biodiversity of the park

20: The grassland of Cat Tien National Park contains a great and diverse amount of the fauna found in the park and is therefore ideal for birdwatching.
