BC: The Honeymoon has just begun!
FC: Honeymoon in Riviera Maya
Goodbye Portland.... hola Mexico! August 2007 - We were so excited to be going on our honeymoon to Riviera Maya, Mexico! We couldn't wait to enjoy the sun, water, and lots of relaxation! The night before we left, we stayed at the Hampton Inn, and even enjoyed a couple pieces of our leftover wedding cake that Mom surprised us with!
Aventura Spa Palace was an AMAZING four star all-inclusive resort. We enjoyed the food, swimming pools, entertainment, activities, room service, and our very own hot tub in our room!
The food at each of the nine resort restaurants was so yummy! El Greco was our favorite restaurant because of the huge buffet!
The resort had two huge pools, and we had so much fun playing in the water. We swam, snorkeled, canoed, and enjoyed drinks at the swim-up bar. Miguel ordered a "Blue Hawaiian" every day in honor of his new Hawaiian bride!
 Chichen Itza
We toured Chichen Itza and other Mayan ruins, and were fascinated by all of the history there. After the tour, we had a delicious Mexican lunch with musical and dancing entertainment!
 Fun in the sun!
The beautiful view from our balcony! | LIVE laugh LOVE
 Good Times
After enjoying a delicious Mexican food dinner with a flaming dessert, we were entertained by the resort circus act and fire dancers!
Miguel had the incredible opportunity to go scuba diving in the cenotes (caves) of Riviera Maya. He followed the guides through very tight spaces from cave to cave. He saw interesting formations, stalagmites, and even ancient pottery from the Mayans.
We were invited to a special Lunamieleros (Honeymooners) Dinner to celebrate with more than 100 other honeymooning couples at the resort. The Newlywed Game was especially entertaining!
Snorkeling was amazing! We saw all kinds of fish, coral, and sea creatures. Miguel had lots of fun taking underwater pictures, especially when he saw a nurse shark! Kelsey ended up seasick after the two boat rides and lots of ocean waves. Miguel was kind enough not to tease her at the time, but looking back now, it's one of the more humorous parts of our trip!
After our snorkeling tour, we spent time in Cozumel where we found Hotel Meson San Miguel!
Miguel might have beat Kelsey in pool, but she whipped him in ping pong! | There were many talented artists at the resort who did amazing artwork.
We had fun snorkeling and canoing in the resort lagoon. We saw beautiful fish and a creepy crawly crab!
We had an amazing week, a wonderful last night at the resort, and we got out of Mexico just in time....a BIG hurricane was heading our way! Plywood was quickly installed over windows around town, and the airport was packed! All flights were sold out, and we were very thankful to be on one of them. Because of the chaos in Mexico, we missed our connecting flight in Texas, but we were just glad to be out of harms way.....plus the airlines put up us in a really nice room at the Hyatt. When we returned home, Kelsey's parents surprised us with recycled wedding decorations adorning our house and a "Mr. & Mrs. Mesa" banner hanging on our front door!
