2: the artificial application of water to land to assist in the production of crops. | What if people had not learned to farm? | We wouldn't have things like the cotton gin, or the spinning Ginny. Farming also brought along the Industrial Revolution. | Irrigation- | Nomad- | a member of a tribe that has no permanent home, by moves from place to place.

3: Ancient River Valley Civilization | Mesopotamia is the Greek word for "land between the rivers" from Tigris and Euphrates river. With development of irrigation around 6000 BCE, farming villages appeared and grew into larger communities and then cities along these rivers. Nomad- a member of a tribe that has no permanent home. Irrigation- the artificial application of water to land to assist in the making of crops. Fertile Crescent- an area of fertile land in the middle east extending around the Tigris and Euphrate River in a semi-circle from Israel to the Persian Gulf.

4: What if Rome did not fall? | Then there would have been no Middle Ages and they'd probably still be fighting about everything.

5: Ancient Greece/Rome | The Trojan War was an important starting point for the history of Greece. The Trojan War was the most important change in the early history of ancient Greece. Most of Roman history deals with war, also. The Roman Empire depended on the Roman army. The army spread the language and culture of Rome to Europe and much of Asia and Africa. Trojan War-a ten year war waged by the confederate Greeks under Agamemnon against the Trojans to avenge the abduction of Helen. Roman Empire-the lands of people subject to the authority of ancient Rome. Language-a body of words and the systems for their use, common to a people who are of the same community or nation. Culture- a particular form of civilization as that of a certain nation or period.

6: What if the Mongols had not opened the Silk Road to safe travels? | Trade would have been hard, and we might not have everything we have today. | Post-Classical Asia&Africa: | During this era, a new international framework was being made for a genuine world historical change. This era was a time of big change and big dreams. Change became a way of everyday life. This era had new allies, new trades, new enemies, and new ways.

7: Trades-the act of buying, selling or exchanging commodities within a country or between countries. Silk Road- an ancient trade route between china and the Mediterranean. Post-Classical- of or pertaining to a time after the classical period, especially in art, culture and literature. Change- to make the form, nature, future content, etc... of something different from what it is or from what it would be.

8: Medieval Europe was often known as the dark ages. There were no surviving documents and it is often thought of as mostly myths and legends. Western Europe was under rule of hundreds of Kings and Lords, where castles covered landscapes and entire cities were built behind protective walls. | Medieval Europe | Myth- a traditional story | Dark Ages- the period in European history from A.D. 476-1000

9: What if the Black Plague had not attacked Western Europe? | It had a domino effect that ended in barns filled with rats, unused mills, and unpaid rents. So if the Plague had not attacked, maybe people would not call it the dark ages.

10: Renaissance/Reformation: | The Renaissance is considered the start of modern times because it's more like today. The Renaissance began in Florence, Italy. Renaissance means "rebirth" because it was believed that the human spirit had to be re-awakened as in the classical times. Reform-to form again. Modern- of or pertaining to present or recent time. Printing press-a machine for printing on paper. Literacy-the quality or state of possessing the ability to read and write.

11: What if Gutenburg hadn't invented the printing press? | Then people wouldn't be able to read, and the literacy rate wouldn't be what it is now.

12: Enlightenment | The Enlightenment Age spiritualized the principle of religious authority, humanized theological systems, and emancipated individuals from physical coercion. The Enlightenment Age took ideas from the political philosophers Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, and various skeptical thinkers in France such as Pierre Bayle. The Enlightenment Age came after the Renaissance Period in Europe. | What If?

13: Enlightenment- | the awakening of ultimate truth | Philosopher- | a person who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics, logic or other related fields

14: World War I | World War I is also known as the Great War of 1914-1918. There were two sides of this war, the Allied Powers made up of France, Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and eventually the United States whom entered in 1917. There was also the Central powers made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey. The war started because of the assassination of the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand. | Mustard Gas- chemical-warfare causes blisters, blindness, and lung damage | Infantry- soldiers on foot

15: What if? | Allies- to unite formally as by treaty. | Trenches- long, narrow tunnel in the ground | If the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand wasn't assassinated the war would never have started.

16: World War II | World War II was from 1939-1945. The German Nazi Party put a variety of different people in concentration camps, such as Auschwitz and Birkenau, simply because they were different. The Allied Powers consisted of France, Britain, the United States, Soviet Union, and China. World War II was started do to the harsh conditions on Germany from the Treaty of Versailles. Germany had a mass genocide by putting the people they hated in concentration camps. Great Britain and France used Appeasement to try and stay out of the war. | Treaty- formal agreement between two or more states in reference to peace | What if? | The war would have drug on for much longer causing more deaths.

17: Concentration Camp- | guarded compound for the imprisonment of members of ethnic minorities or political opponents | Appeasement- | to bring to a state of peace | Genocide- | the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.

18: USSR- | Union of Soviet Socialist Republics | Berlin Airlift- | Communism- | system of government ruled by the totalitarian state | brought goods into West Berlin by American and British planes

19: The Cold War was between the U.S. and the USSR. The Cold war had many major crises such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall kept people from escaping from the Communist west side of Russia to the Capitalist East. During the Cold War there was never actually fighting that took place. The Cold War started in 1945 and did not end until 1960. One reason the Cold War happened was because of the Space Race. The U.S. had the Berlin Airlift to try and help people in the east. | Cold War | What if? | The Space Race would have continued to see who could get the most people to space. There would have been actual fighting in the war. | Space Race- | race between the U.S. and the USSR to get to space
