S: stolen Halloween
FC: Stolen Halloween | By: Julia Krapf
After a long, first day of school, Kit was ready to go home. As he climbed the steep stairs of the school bus, he tripped and fell, dropping all of his books on the muddy floor.
The kids on the bus began to laugh and not one person went over to help him. After gathering his books, he walked down the isle of shame to the first empty seat he saw. It was a bad end to another bad day in 12-year-old Kit Jenkins's life.
While sitting alone in his seat, Kit overheard a conversation between two upperclassmen, Allie and Jim. | "...about the candy? It was all over the news today." Jim whispered. "Oh yeah! I heard that all of the Halloween candy in our town is missing!" Allie replied. "Someone or something must be behind all of this madness!" "If we don't find out where the candy is before Halloween tomorrow, there will be no Halloween!" Jim cried.
Kit got off the bus and started to walk home.He was still in shock after thinking about what Alie and Jim had said .Then all of the sudden, he heard a faint whisper behind him.
"Hello Kit." A mysterious voice called from behind him. Kit whipped around and saw nothing but a forest of trees. Confused and startled, Kit called, "Is anybody there?". "Look down my dear friend!" A low-pitched voice called from below. Kit's eyes moved to the forest floor when all of the sudden the leaves around his boots began to sink down into the ground following the rest of his body.
"WHAT IS GOING ON!" Kit screamed as he banged the ground above him, trying to escape the hidden underground cave. "Kit, calm down. You are fine. We need to discuss the Halloween stealing." The voice said calmly as it moved closer to Kit. Kit finally saw what was making the voice. It was a talking, black cat! This was a sight he had never seen before. "I know you may think this is crazy but I need your help." The cat said. Kit stood there, staring blankly at the cat. "How is this even possible!" Kit screamed. "There no time to explain everything because Halloween is tomorrow! But I need your help to bring the candy back to our town and save Halloween." "I just want to go home!" Kit screamed. "I promise to do anything. in return if you help me!"The cat said. Kit glared at the cat and thought long and hard. --- "I will help you only if you give me friends."
"deal. My name is Kat by the way, K-a-t. And I am here because our town needs your help." "Why me?" "Because you are destined for this case. You were meant to solve it and claim your reward. I am giving you this charm to help you. It creates a portal into any house or room you want but the portal is only open for 30 minutes in each room you travel to. If the portal closes before you make it inside, you fail. You have until 5 pm tomorrow night to solve this mystery. Good luck." and with that the cat threw the charm to Kit and disappeared through the ground.
Kit was truly confused and he felt abandoned. He decided to go to his parents first to tell them what had happened. | He took out the charm and slid it open, releasing a swirl of purple mist. | Hesitant, he put one finger in the purple mist but was immediately sucked into it.
"Mom? Dad? Are you guys home?" Kit said. "Oh my god! He's okay! He's okay!" Kits mother screamed. "Where have you been son? We have been worried sick about you since you didn't come home from the bus!" Kits father yelled. "Long story dad! But I need your help. I only have 30 minutes before I have to leave agai-"Kit was cut off. "You are not leaving again young man You are beyond grounded. Go to your room." "You don't understand I nee-" "Go to your room!"
Kit couldn't believe what just happened. He had never be grounded before and his only option at this point was to sneak out. | If the 30 minutes ran out, then he wouldn't be able to get back through the portal and solve this mystery. He built up the courage to open his door and run past his parents without them noticing. | Disobeying his parents was one of the hardest things he had ever done but he needed to get back in the portal.
Inside the portal, Kit went through a list of suspects he came up with that might have stolen the candy. But in the end, he narrowed it down to one person, his school nurse, Riley.
Riley absolutely hated Halloween because she didn't like cleaning up kid's vomit after they ate too much candy. Also, she hated taking care of so many sick kids when they didn't get enough sleep after Halloween.
The second the portal was opened into Riley's office, Kit was pinned against the wall and blindfolded. Kit could smell all the candy all around him but did not dare to move. "Why are you here!" She shouted at him. "I-I- can-can't- " Kit choked out. She released her arm and let Kit fall to the ground gasping for air. "ANSWER ME!" She screamed. "I am here because I know your secret and a lot of other people do too! They are coming for you!" He lied.
Kit had a plan. It had been 30 minutes since they started arguing and the purple smoke swirl came back to life. In an instant, Kit grabbed Riley and threw her into the portal. He jumped in close behind.
They arrived at the police station where Kit had sent portal to go to. The policemen took Riley into custody and the candy was returned back to the candy stores. When Kit went to the bathroom to wash up, Kat was already waiting inside. | "So how about that deal Kat?" "It is 6:30. You did not complete your task. I am sorry Kit but I cannot keep my other end of the deal." Kat said sadly. "WHAT! You mean I did all that for nothing?" "You have the satisfactory of saving Halloween Kit!" "I can't believe this!" Kit screamed as he ran out the police station.
When Kit walked outside, he was greeted by hundreds of kids from all over town cheering his name. "Kit saved the candy! Kit saved the candy!" He had never had anyone cheer him on for anything before. He was their hero! The kids in the town not only welcomed Kit into more friendships, but they also created a candy in dedication of his story and how he came to save Halloween. They call is Kit Kat!
