Sunset at Sea | About 10:45 pm on the first night of our cruise we stood out on the deck and watched the sun set over the ocean. The colors, reflecting on the clouds and the water, painted a beautiful picture that changed by the minute......one of our favorite memories!
 Tracey Arm
Tracey Arm is a beautiful glacier-carved fjord near Juneau. The icebergs were gorgeous!!
 Mendenhall Glacier
On June 3 the ship docked in Juneau. We hiked 5 miles up into the mossy forest above Mendenhall Glacier. It turned out to be a beautiful day with great views of the glacier.
We disembarked the ship in Skagway and at noon boarded a narrow-gauge train that took us up over White Pass to Fraser, BC, part of the Yukon Territory.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see?
In Fraser, BC we boarded a Holland America Motor Coach and started our journey up the Alaska Highway. In addition to seeing several bear close to the road, the scenery was breathtaking.
After learning about how these sled dogs were trained, we got the chance to love on the dogs. This stop was a favorite! | MEET THE DOGS
UNCOMMON JOURNEYS A Premier Dog Sled Kennel
Beaver Creek Rendezvous | Canada Alaska Border
 Canyon Creek Bridge
We had several good wildlife sightings. This bull moose was quite a way across the field and the picture was taken through the bus window. In spite of that we got a decent picture. The mama moose and baby were not interested in posing for the picture. They were on the move.
The first day in Fairbanks we went on a 3-hour boat cruise which included a visit to an Athabascan Indian Village, watching a sled dog demo and seeing a sea plane take off and land on the river.
During the afternoon we visited the El Dorado Gold Mine. We ate a meal of miner's stew, visited the old sledge and then took a train to a working mine for a demo and a chance to mine for gold.
Alaska Oil Pipeline | The Trans Alaska Pipeline is 800 miles long with 420 miles raised above ground to protect the permafrost. The pipeline has proved to have a positive effect on the caribou herds, in spite of initial concern

We spent an extra day in Anchorage before returning home. We had a rental car for the day and headed toward Seward. It was one of our very favorite days and the scenery was just amazing.
 Portage Glacier
We enjoyed a 1 hour cruise to view Portage Glacier, getting as close as 300 yards. The cloudy skies brought out even more blue in the ice.
 Leaving Anchorage
We said good-bye to our bed and breakfast at 4:00 AM to catch our plane back to Austin. The mountains were beautiful from the air as we took off, leaving us with many memories of an unforgettable trip! | Mt. Hood
