FC: EUROPE | Summer 2007

1: Packed 2 backpacks, grabbed our passports, and jumped on a flight for a 3 week adventure in Europe!

2: Frankfurt | We flew into Frankfurt early in the morning and had a whole day to enjoy the city. We started in the old city, walked along the river Main, and had a couple of beers at a festival by the old Opera house

3: Took a boat ride along the river Main and, after enjoying a beautiful view of the city skyline, fell asleep for the first time in over 24 hours. | As evening neared, we walked through the red light district to the main train station and took a night train to Prague.

4: Prague | Our hostel in Prague was located right at the end of Wenceslas Square. After dropping off our backpacks we went off exploring Prague

5: Walking along cobblestone streets and enjoying a view of Charles Bridge | Memorial to the victims of communism

6: took a funicular to Petrin Tower for a view of the city, Prague Castle, and St Vitus Cathedral

8: Exploring the grounds of Prague Castle. From the guards to the art and architecture. The Golden Lane is a popular tourist destination with its historic houses. One of the houses was rented by Franz Kafka

9: Astronomical clock | art on the streets | Gothic architecture

10: Jewish side of Prague

11: Charles Bridge is filled with artists selling jewelry and paintings | Marionette shop

12: Night view of Wenceslas Square and the National Museum.

13: Milan | In Milan we got lost on our way to the hotel but, with the help of some friendly shop owners, we found our way, dropped off our bags, and made it to the Milan Cathedral right before closing

15: The roof of the Milan Cathedral is filled with arches, spires, and sculptures. | Went shopping at the Galleria Vittorio. Ryan got a tie., I could not choose between Prada | and Louis Vuitton

16: Walked around Castillo Sforzesco and then had some gelatto in a small shop along the Navigli

17: Venice | Took a train to our overnight lodging at a campsite. From there a short ferry ride to Venice

18: The main mode of transportation in Venice is by water taxis and gondolas. on foot its easy to get lost

19: Visit to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection

20: View of Venice at sunset | Our second day in Venice we visited San Marco Square and climbed the campanile . While we were enjoying the view, the campanile bells started to ring.

22: Visited Doge's Palace and walked across the Bridge of Sighs from the palace to the prison

23: Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal

24: We could not leave Venice without going on a gondola ride complete with a singing gondolier

25: Florence | Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Florence Cathedral)

26: Climbed the stairs to the top of Giottos bell tower

27: Enjoyed some of the art Florence had to offer and did some street shopping. Rubbing the nose of the boar at the market is considered good luck

28: Cinque Terre

29: Cinque Terre is a stretch of five picturesque villages along the Mediterranean coast.

30: We went hiking on the trails connecting the villages, then went swimming and kayaking in the sea

32: Pisa | day trip to see the leaning tower

33: ROME | our last stop in Italy was Rome: Colosseum, Spanish Steps, and Trevi fountain

34: Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine

35: Piazza Navona street artists | National Monument of Victor Emmanuel | Gelatto was our main food group while in Italy

36: Vatican City

37: Toured St Peter Basilica and climbed up to the dome for a view of the city. Then on to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine chapel | Mosaic under the dome of St Peter Cathedral

38: Paris | Louver , the river Seine, and Hotel National des Invalides

39: Eiffel Tower

40: View of Paris from the Eiffel tower and Napoleon's Tomb

41: Paris red light district and Moulin Rouge.

42: Notre Dame and Arc De Triomphe

43: London | It was so exciting to get back to an English-speaking city. The London Eye Ferris wheel and Tower Bridge

44: Millennium Bridge, Shakespeare theater, St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey

45: Tower of London

46: Watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, a visit to the Sherlock Holmes museum, and a drink with Miriam who was living in London at the time.

47: Dublin | Miriam joined us on our last Europe stop.
