1: Vienna, Austria October 2 our first stop

2: St. Stephen's cathedral | Dozens of carriages...horses standing patiently

3: The Library

4: Cobbled streets, statues, fountains, beautiful buildings, breathing history.

5: The National Opera (last minute standing room tickets sell for 3 Euros)

6: Valtice, Czech Republic October 4 | Bikes, maps, GPS...and we were off. Light drizzle and cold wind for our first day.

7: Follies, ornate structures in the middle of nowhere...built by the Liechtensteins just for the fun of it.

8: Mikulov, Czech Republic October 4

9: We found our hotel (no thanks to Garmin) Hotel Templ was a 16th century Jewish temple...complete with wine press.

10: Hike from Pavlov to hrad..and back to Mikulov | Soft misting rain, bird cannons echoing, sweet grapes in the fields, golden leaves on the paths. Café Fara for lunch and famous coffee.

11: Crumbling hrads (castles) | Rocky paths

13: Back at Mikulov

14: Hardegg, Austrian town, beyond the iron curtain remnants across the river Dyji (Strudels and cappuccinos)

15: Hiking along the smuggler's route, bank of river Dyji, rocky paths, carpeted with yellow and brown leaves, burbling streams harmonizing with the windsong in the trees, hepatica and cyclamen blooming in the forests

16: Vranov Nad Dyji, end of our hike

17: Telc, Czech Republic October 6 | View from our window over the pastel town

19: Telc | Castle | Long rectangle cobblestone square | Italian craftsman pastel row buildings

20: Leaving Telc... beautiful gardens beyond the arched entry . Leaves trees and castle reflected in the water.

21: Jindrichuv Hradek, Czech Republic October 7

22: Cesky Krumlov, Czeck Republic October 8 | Arrived in soft evening light after 85 km ride from Jindrichuv Hradek

23: Cobbled streets | Tower

25: River Vltava. We ate supper-traditional Bohemian - wrapped in blankets beside the whispering gurgling river | The town square

27: The castle overlooking the town

29: Cesky Krumlov - tower cakes, mulled wine, sunlit castle and tower, red leaved vines covering walls, river Vltava curling around, waves catching the sunlight

30: Hike along Sazava river to Davle | Lunch "buffet"

32: Praha!

35: David Cerny statues Fat babies, King Wenceslas, Proudly (also known as "Piss")

36: Astronomical clock On the hour, a skeletal pulls the string, windows open, little people stare out, and finally at the very top a trumpet player plays a finale. Carmen at National Opera Theater, supper at Café Louvre, memories of Praha.

38: Sunlight, musicians, vendors, crowds. | Charles bridge

39: Touching the dog and the woman | Not sure why...but it seemed like the thing to do
