1: This tells the tale of the travels associated with the CENIDE Nano Summer Program. The program is a seven-week international academic program focusing on the exciting and emerging field of nanotechnology. The summer program is organized by the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CENIDE) at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). | EUROPE

3: is the 19th largest city in Germany. Located in the Cologne/Bonn Region, about 25 kilometres south of Cologne on the river Rhine in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, it was the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 and the official seat of government of united Germany from 1990 to 1999. | BONN

4: THE DOM is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires and largest facade of any church in the world.

12: protects the wood-rush and beech woods that flourish in the maritime climate. An area of 110 square kilometres is covered by deciduous and coniferous woods, lakes, streams and open grassland. Several parts of the national park will not be open to the public for a long time. Anti-personnel minefields, sown with Glasmine 43 mines dating from the Second World War period, still exist near the dam of the Urft Reservoir. An interesting archeological feature of the region is the Eifel Aqueduct, one of the longest aqueducts of the Roman empire, providing the city of Cologne with water. | EIFEL NATIONAL PARK

14: is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.5 million people, Berlin is Germany's largest city and is the second most populous city proper and the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union. | BERLIN



21: Schloss Burg, located near Solingen, is the largest reconstructed castle in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and a popular tourist attraction. It also contains the Museum of the Bergische Land. Its early history is closely connected to the growth of the Duchy of Berg. In the beginning of the 12th century (after 1133), Count Adolf III of Berg built Schloss Burg on a mountain over the river Wupper. Not until the 15th century, after significant reconstruction, did it receive its current name reflecting its palatial extension. | Schloss Burg | 18/7/2012
