S: Italy Trip - Fall 2010

FC: Italy Trip - Fall 2010

1: Milan was a wonderful surprise. We did get separated from our tour group momentarily. But it led to a great adventure.

4: Venice was wet and raining but just wonderful and very unique. St. Marks Square was flooded and we walked on tables to keep our feet dry. Great people watching!

8: Enchanting Florence ! We climbed to the top of the Duomo at sunset

9: We loved the Grom Gelato | Hotel Alessandra

11: We took a Chianti Country day tour. Included was a visit to a winery for dinner and flights of wine and the towns of Pisa and Siena. Kurt got a little car sick but managed to recover.

13: Kurt answered the challenge!

14: The lovely town of Lucca was a day stop on our way from Florence to Cinque Terre.

16: Cinque Terre ("Five Lands") are five small towns on the Ligurian coast. We stayed in Vernazza

18: We walked the path to Corniglia

19: ... then took the train to Manarola

21: "A ... then walked the Via Dell'Amore ("Way of Love") to Riomaggiore

22: Rough water required all the boats to be brought into the Piazza Marconi in Vernazza.

25: A quick stop in Monterosso (the last of the five towns) before heading to Assisi

27: Then on to Rome

28: We walked to the Vatican and climbed the Dome of St. Peter's.

36: Walk, Spanish Steps, Victor Emmanuel "typewriter" | Caravaggio at St. Louis of the French Church

37: The walk to the Forum, Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere

38: We were drenched during our visit to the Colosseum and Arch of Titus. Then the sun came out and we had a great day in the Form and on Palatine Hill

41: We hiked to San Giovanni in Laterano in the evening.

42: We left our Hotel Smeraldo and the wonderful neighborhood, the Largo Argentina ruins, Campo de'Fiori, and Piazza Navona, and flew to Amsterdam.

44: Twenty-two hours gave us a wonderful opportunity to explore Amsterdam ... | ... and almost miss our flight home !
