FC: Washington Vacation 2012
1: June 8-17, 2012 Mary Ann, Brenda, and Christena planned this trip for about a year. Georgia and Milo had to stay at the Logan Animal Clinic while we were gone. Friday, we all met at the Cedar Rapids Airport and went to Seattle and stayed at Ursula's house. The first stop the next day was the Seattle Space Needle. Brenda and Mary Ann went up while Christy chickened out and walked around with Ursula. Next door to the Needle was the Chihuly Glass Exhibit. We ate at the Cutter's restaurant then Ursula and Christy took a ferry to Ursula's house while Mary Ann and Brenda went on to the resort. Sunday morning we all met at Pike Place Market. We ate at Fisherman's restaurant and went to the Pioneer Square and Underground tour. We got lost driving to the Fremont Troll. But we found it. We stayed at Ursula's house Sunday night because the next morning was an early start to the Victoria Clipper by 7am for a scheduled trip to Victoria B.C. Tuesday we went on another scheduled tour of Grouse Mountain and Capilano Bridge in Vancouver, Canada. Wednesday we went to Tillicum Village on Blake Island.. The next day was a local drive around and we saw White Rock, the Peach Arch Park and Semiahmoo Park and went on a Crab Cruise. Friday was the trip to Admiralty Head Lighthouse and Rainbow Bridge. Saturday we packed up and went to Seattle for our last day. We walked around the Market and the Waterfront one last time. We rode the Seattle Seaplane. We kept very busy all week and we were all tired at the end of each day but we saw a lot and it was a great time.

7: Brenda | Christy | Seattle Gum Wall The second germiest tourist attraction in the world! Brenda didn't appreciate the history in this alley. She wanted to cut Christy's hair off because it touched the wall!
8: Christy tried a lot of new foods but didn't like mussels!
9: Ursula broke her ankle in 3 places just 2 weeks before we got there. So she needed help getting up the steep roads!
10: The only bridge to Whidbey Island. This picture was taken at a scenic pull off. This bridge is called Deception Pass because the water is deeper than it looks. Three different bays come together here.
11: Rainbow Bridge in La Conner, Washington. It's in the tourist book but who knows why...
12: Mary Ann & Brenda went up to the top. Christy chickened out and walked around with Ursula.

14: restaurants beside sea shore | White Rock Beach is famous for its 1,500 ft. long pier, its 2.5 km long beach promenade and of course the large white rock which weighs in at 486 tons and is a glacial deposit from the coastal range. The rock is white from being painted but it was originally a white landmark because of the bird droppings.

20: When we got to the island, we were served an appetizer of steamed clams. As you ate them you were expected to drop the shells on the ground to maintain the pathway. | This guy makes the masks for the shows. | These guys are cooking our dinner. Salmon is cooking on the fire.

26: Pioneer Square Seattle was built on ground that was so soft that heavy rains would make it impossible to be on the roads. So they rebuilt the city on top of the old buildings in this old section of town. | Chief Seattle
28: Teamwork to get Ursula up the hill! | The Fremont Troll is situated under an overpass. It is a huge thing holding a real VW Beetle. The hubcap is his eye. His is 18ft. high,& weighs 13,000lbs. It is made of steel rebar, wire and concrete. Fremont also claims to be the center of the universe.
29: A smile can brighten any moment, and a simple hug can put joy in your day.
30: Mile Zero is the beginning of Highway 1 which runs clear across the country. | On the Hop on Hop off bus it had a special route and it takes about 90 minutes to ride the whole way. | A very pretty park with turtles sitting on the log. | Undersea Gardens. We saw a show that had giant octopus' and ugly eels. | Craigdarroch Castle Museum Brenda and Christy went on a self tour through this house. It has 39 rooms and 4 floors plus the tower on top. 20,000sq. feet. It has been a school and a hospital in the past.
31: The Fairmont Empress Hotel is famous for their afternoon tea. They have many celebrities and royalty stay there. | Chinatown in Victoria, B.C. The lion statues that sit by the gate to Chinatown are said to be able come to life when a honest politician stands next to them. | school
32: Seattle Seaplane Tours | Bill Gate's house | Floating Bridge | Mary Ann sat up front with the pilot, Brenda & Christy sat behind them. There were two more seats behind us that were empty. This was a first for all of us and it was amazing!

34: The lighthouse stood watch over the entrance to Puget Sound and guided sailing ships towards their destination. Today, it looks over Fort Casey towards the Olympic Mountains, the Port Townsend Ferry and Admiralty Inlet. Located on beautiful Whidbey Island.

36: A squirrels view of the rain forest. The Treetops is a series of cable bridges suspended between high tree platforms that reach as high as 10 stories.
37: The Cliffwalk is 20 inches wide and 300 feet above the canyon floor. An eagles view.
38: This is the bus that took us to Capilano Bridge and the Grouse Mountain.
39: Christy a little tense being up that high on the suspension bridge! It didn't help that someone was jumping on the bridge. | Glass bottom overlook | Mom was the only one to stay dry because Christy and Brenda thought their coats were waterproof. WRONG! We were soaked by the end of the day.

41: It was very foggy and raining while we were here. The bears were digging a hole in the snow. Only an electric fence separated us.
42: We saw a loggers show. They had to be freezing! Christy standing by a snow drift.
43: Semiahmoo Park. We were on the US side looking across at Canada. The arrow is pointing at the white rock.
