 Derek drove through the night!
Moore story: The bus trip began in Horicon and continued to Janesville, before heading to the coast. Derek was glad that the bus didn’t have any problems in the mountains. Mary’s friend Kassie and daughter Claire were able to join us for a day. Joe, Stacey & their new baby Brandon also came to visit. It was good to catch up and hang out with friends from North Carolina. The weather was great. We all enjoyed alternating our time between the beach and the pool. Derek accomplished his goal for the trip, he got to go fishing twice. Davis, Caleb, Derek and Uncle Bill went to the aquarium. The boys also built their own cars. Davis built a Lighting McQueen car and Caleb built a yellow sports car. Katherine joined the girls on a shopping trip. She helped Mary pick out clothes and also got to pick out gifts for herself and the boys at the Disney store. Katherine, Davis, and Caleb played miniature golf for the first time with all their cousins. Mary happily received news of her new position, that meant the clothes purchased during the girls outlet mall trip would get worn. On couples night, us “kids” got dressed up and ate at a great restaurant. Everyone enjoyed the food. I even convinced Laurie, Patti, Kristine, and AJ to taste sushi for the first time. Then Derek took us on a bus tour of the strip where we enjoyed the sights and experienced Black Bike Week from the safety of the Big Red Bus. We ended up at the Twisted Kilt where we chatted, listened to terrible band, and Luther socialized with the bartender. On the way back home, Derek’s family treated us all to grilled hamburgers and brats with all the fixings. It was great to stretch our legs and spend time with Betty, Teresa, Squeak and Cory before loading on the bus for the overnight trip back to Wisconsin. Thanks for a great time and great memories, Derek, Mary, Katherine, Davis, and Caleb
We saw many of these and no one got stung!
Burying Uncle Bill in the sand! | Erik helping Bill out with some refreshments, Beer!
The Lemke Story; The bus ride down was quite cozy. We made it down ok though. I manage to crochet a dish cloth on the way. Grandma Williams would be so proud. It’s never a bad day when you have sangria, guacamole and an ocean front vacation house. The first full day was nice and relaxing. Emery had fun meeting a new friend Claire. I think Erik has finally given up on deep sea fishing. He fed more fishes than he was able to reel in. At least this trip he didn’t get stung by a jellyfish. He was able to go golfing which was his one desire for the trip. I did manage to get 2nd degree burns on my hands though that resulted in some rather large blisters and a nearly 2 mile walk to the doctor’s office. But the silver lining of the story is I got to pawn off the diaper changings and baths to Erik because it hurt my hands too much to do that. Emery really enjoyed switching back and forth between the playing with her cousins on beach and the swimming pool. She also enjoyed her sea shell gathering expeditions. Marshall never did quite warm up to the ocean or the swimming pool but he sure did like to try to eat sand. He also decided it was a good time to start walking. It was sadly time to pile back into the bus and head back to Wisconsin and work.
 Surfs Up!
Bills story: It was a long drive. I suffered from sensory overload. I still suffer from it at family gathering to this day. I learned not to wear sunglasses in the ocean because she takes them off your face and then you cannot find them. I learned that you can catch a lot of Sea Bass before their season opens. It was a long drive back. Pickering Story: We were a little nervous about driving in a very full bus load of people for 24 straight hours. To my disappointment I have no crazy and funny stories to share from the bus ride. Everything went very smooth and turned out to be a lot of fun. The vacation turned out to be a blast like we expected. It is our favorite kind of vacations, laid back relaxed hanging out with family at the beach and pool. Gavin really enjoyed collecting sea shells and finding shark teeth. Garrett loved burying Uncle Bill in the sand. Garrett also went mini golfing for the first time. Mom and Dad watched all the kids while we went out for a night into town. Needless to say it was quite interesting considering it was bike week. Jason also managed to get mom the salt she wanted from the tilted kilt.
The leonard's Story: The Leonards’ enjoyed the Myrtle Beach trip. We were a bit apprehensive about the bus trip there and back but it went pretty smoothly. We were unable to celebrate AJ’s 40th birthday before the trip. Nana had the great idea to decorate the bus and figured out that the day we were leaving was 40 days past his birthday so it was decorated “Happy 40th and 40 days Birthday AJ! Nana had lots snacks for the trip and Kristine had enough toys for all of the kids. We were able to experience our first Chick-fil-A and saw lots of them by the time the traveling was done. The house was very nice with a decent kitchen. Mom brought baking supplies, half of her kitchen appliances, and the sink from home. This turned out to be a good thing because she kept making us chocolate cookies and fresh bread and of course made mixed alcoholic drinks for her adult children. The house had a pool, hot tub and kiddy pool. The beach was very nice with good sand. There weren’t as many nice shells as our first ocean trip. The last day or two we figured out better places to look for shells and Gavin gave us pointers on finding shark teeth. The kids were very excited to look for them but we didn’t find many, next time we will start looking for them sooner. We enjoyed being able to swim in the pool and play in the sand and waves every day. The kids had a good time playing in the waves. Alexa really got into riding on the wake board. Alison also rode the waves. The boys and AJ were fearless of course. Papa rode a couple of waves as well. AJ and the boys went parasailing which means pulled by a boat while gliding in the air with a harness connected to a sail about 300 feet in the air. Joshua said it was awesome and they all thought it was pretty cool. The adult girls were able to go a shopping trip which was nice. One night Nana and Papa watched the little kids so the big kids could go out. We went to a nice restaurant and cruised the streets in the bus. We also went to some bars to experience the night life. The Leonards’ went to a plantation in Charleston one day. We went on a pontoon boat ride where we saw lots of alligators and birds. We also went on a walk through the swamp and saw more alligators. We think we saw “Charlie” the largest alligator who is 700 pounds and 15 feet long. We enjoyed being able to spend the time together with the whole Maedke clan living ocean side. Favorite memories: AJ’s- playing in the waves and parasailing Kristine-spending time with everyone, seeing the giant alligator Alexa- riding the waves, seeing the giant alligator Alison- playing in the waves, living in a huge mansion Joshua-parasailing, seeing the big alligator, riding the waves Devin-parasailing, riding the waves
