FC: The Great Outdoors | A book on Native Texas PLants and Ethnobotany by: Mrs. Brock's Class

Texas Native Wildflowers! | What a beautiful view! | The bluebonnet is the Texas State flower!

Indian Paintbrush | Flowering Dogwood | Indian Blanket | Texas has many beautiful wild flowers that paint the landscape!

Black-eyed Susan | Texas Dandelion | Flowers are the reproductive part of most plants. Flowers contain pollen and tiny eggs called ovules. After pollination of the flower and fertilization of the ovule, the ovule develops into a fruit. | One of the most important parts of a plant can be the flower because the flower is what allows a plant to reproduce. The ability to reproduce is a characteristic of a living thing.

The Pecan Tree is the state tree Native to Texas!

Cottonwood trees can be seen all over North Texas

Stems do many things. They support the plant. They act like the plant's plumbing system, conducting water and nutrients from roots, and food in the form of sugar from the leaves to the other plant parts. Stems can be bendable like a daisy stem or woody like the trunk of an oak tree.

Trees are also wonderful for climbing!

Roots act like straws drinking up water and nutrients from the soil. Tiny root hairs stick out from the root to help absorb. Roots also help the plant stay in the ground so it doesn't fall over. Roots also store extra food for future use.

Leaves make most plants' food. Leaves are designed to take in sunlight and use it to make food through a process called photosynthesis.
