BC: Happy Trials to you, 'till we meet again!
FC: Black Hills Escape | Memorial Weekend 2010
sculptures | What 2 brave girls - taking on a fire breathing dragon! | Our first stop was this unique sculpture park
The girls had a lot of fun posing by all of the sculptures. Some of them were very interesting but I guess it should have been a clue when the artist sat in a lawn chair next to his mobile home in a field by the interstate.
The first hotel had a water park which everyone enjoyed - including grandma - look at those moves on the slide.!
Badlands | Stopping at the Badlands is a must on any trip to South Dakota. The girls had fun climbing on the rocks and even spotting a rattler along the way. Despite the clouds, you can still see some of the varying colors in the rock formations.
Variety of rock formations at the Badlands.
Getting to the top for the whole family took some coaxing and coaching but we finally all made it!
Wall Drug | Grandma & Mommy got a few pictures before getting in trouble. Aleni had a hard time with the serious face.
While at Wall Drug, the girls had old-time western pictures taken.
The girls loved clowning around - especially with all the unusual statues and picture opportunities. They are trying very hard to have stoic, solemn faces here.
We stayed at a pretty hotel with lots of animals - at least they were stuffed. We even ran into some friends from Norfolk.
 Watch out! Crazy schooner drivers.
Look at those cowgirls ridin' buckin' broncos and jackolopes. Quite the professionals.
Throughout the entire trip the girls couldn't get over how the water was "free" at Wall Drug. They talked nonstop about it and here's Aleni finally getting a swig. Don't think it lived up to the hype!
Gramma Pat, Mommy, and Adi hiked around the lake while Daddy & Aleni were on their way to Harney Peak. | Sylvan Lake
There was a cute little goose family we followed near the lake.
Ric & Aleni decided to hike to Harney Peak.by Sylvan Lake. | Lots of fun climbing & jumping along the trail.
We made it - in record time!
 The view from Harney Peak
This is one of the amazing rock formations on Needles Highway in Custer State Park.
On our way through Custer Park we stopped to pet and feed some beautiful horses, and one looked just like Starlight! The horses thought the apples were delicious.
It is always amazing to see Buffalo in their native setting - so majestic. We even glimpsed a few babies which were so adorable.
 Buffalo at Custer State Park
More Wildlife at Custer State Park
While at Custer State Park we were hoping to have the girls experience the not-so-shy burrows. Luckily we spotted them in an open field and the minute the car stopped, Adi took off with a bag of apples and ran right up to them - no fear. Aleni needed a little more coaxing. When we came back, we discovered that one wheel was suspended in air - chalk it up to Daddy's parking.
The baby cubs were so cute to watch as they go from trying to climb up on a log to holding one up.
We were able to see lots of wildlife up close on our drive through Bear Country USA. | Wolves,
Sleeping Foxes, | and Mountain Goats.!
 Mount Rushmore
Even though the day was rainy and cold, the girls still had a great time seeing the faces. Plus, we met our good friends, the Klein's, here which was a surprising treat for all the kids.
Adi started hanging out with Emma & Grace at 4 months old. Jenny was Adi's daycare provider and the girls became the best of friends. This was one of the first times we met up with them after they moved back home & added one more addition, baby Max.
What an exhausting trip - time for snoozing and snuggling!
