Ottawa | Italy | ARRIVED March 9th 2012 | Off we go to Italy! A group of 17 from St. Mary Left of March 8th for a 10 day adventure they will never forget <3

After an 8 hour flight we arrived in Frankfurt,Germany. We grabbed some benches and prepared for our 6 hour layover. In no time did we board our next flight to Milan, Italy. This time we were only in the air for about an hour, and we flew over the alps.

When we landed in Milan we picked up our luggage and met our tour guide, Silvana Boccanfusco. She welcomed us all to Italy and gave us our first instructions; use the washroom and get something to eat. Once everyone was settled back she led us, along with the Ottawa group to the tour bus waiting outside where we met the Texas group. All 48 students, teachers and parents climbed into the bus and we set out on our long bus ride to Verona. It was about 6:00 pm. when we arrived in Verona, the city famous for Romeo & Juliette. While we were there we took pictures around the town and at Juliette's balcony. Shopping was done here aswell :) | Milan

When we were done in Verona we took another bus ride to a town just outside of Venice called, Jesolo. We arrived at our first hotel, Hotel de Bepi. We ate our first Italian dinner and got settled in our rooms. The next morning we were going to Venice, by boat! | VENICE

Our first stop on the way to Venice was Murano. | Here we went to a glass blowing demonstration. It was so cool to see their technique and watch as he made a vase and a horse out of glass. After the demo we had time to shop and take pictures around the island.

After the glass demo we got back on the boat and traveled to Venice. Once there we met our local guide and toured the Doge's Palace. We then got some free time to walk around Venice, to see the mask artisan and the lace school.

We finished our day in Venice and woke up early the next morning ready for the bus ride to Florence. The drive was long but very beautiful. The country sides were mountainous and filled with olive groves, vineyards, peach blossom etc. When we finally arrived in Florence it had a French feel to it. In this spot we again met with a local guide who gave us a tour of the main squares, then we were given free time to shop and explore. Also in Florence we went to a leather store where we were taught how to judge leather quality. Here is where Robyn and I ate our first Italian canoli...It was great :) | To Florence

The next morning we woke up and traveled the countryside to San Gimignano. There we toured the town, purchased items from the local market and tasted the worlds BEST gelato :)

Later in the afternoon we left San Gimignano for Pisa. When we arrived we met our local guide and toured the baptistery, church and of course took all the necessary photos with the leaning tower!

 Pisa

Bright and early we traveled to Assisi where with our free time we walked around and visited the basilica. After spending the morning there we got back on the bus and went to Rome.

Our first stop in Rome was walking down the Spanish steps. From there we took our pictures and walked through the streets of Rome to our restaurant :)

On our second day in Rome we started bright an early. The day was filled with a six hour walking tour of the city to different sites starting off with the Vatican then to places like the coliseum, Roman city ruins, the Trevi fountain and much more. It was one of my favourite days one because it is Rome and two because we got a lot of free time to walk around and explore (get lost). Oh and I got to make my wishes at the Trevi fountain :) 1) I'm going to go back to Rome 2) my secret wish and 3) I'll have an Italian love...

 Off to Pompeii!

 Pompeii

 To Sorrento

Sorrento was so beautiful. The weather was amazing, sunny and warm. We didn't have anything planned to see in Sorrento so that meant free time :) We did some shopping around the town and then walked down a cliff to our hotel which was located near a port right on the Mediterranean sea! The next morning we got up very early to catch a boat to take us to the island of Capri

 Capri

After Capri we took a boat to Naples and a bus ride back to Rome. We ate a fantastic last dinner and slept in our last hotel. This one one of the best trips I've taken. The views and new friendships were amazing :) I hope to go back again someday. Saturday Morning we had to wake up early to pack our bags and say our good byes. ~Arrivederci~
