This past year, my family and I were privileged with being able to travel to Switzerland for Christmas with our grandparents! We were very excited to see what life in Switzerland would be like!
We stayed at the nicest hotel, called Hotel Schiff.
It was nice because it was a 10 minute walk from my grandparents house. We were expecting it to be a not-so-nice place, but instead, it was gracious, and the staff was very friendly. | I
good eats | Every morning we had a delicious Swiss breakfast of muesli, Swiss cheese, hot chocolate, yogurt, and Nutella with French bread.
My favorite part of the breakfast was the nutella and the muesli!
Every day was full of adventure!! | Zurich
It was most fun because I was with my family!
There were so many awesome things that we did as a family, but Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and celebrating the New Years with my family were the most special! On Christmas Eve my family and I took a train to Rapperswil where we saw a live nativity scene. They had real camels and sheep, and Mary and Joseph, and an angel's choir, and even baby Jesus. It was so special because
it was almost as if I was at the birth of Jesus back thousands of years ago! It was such a special way to spend Christmas Eve with my family!
Another exciting day took place the day of Christmas, when my family and I took a hike up to a mountain village called Lenzerheide. To get at least half way up the hill, as a start for us, we took a double-decker bus. When we got to the top, we got out and realized how such a perfect day it was. The path on which we walked was very narrow and there were snowy branches above our heads.
After exploring the woods, we were all ravenous! So we visited a restaurant on top of the mountain where we ate a real Swiss meal of Weiner Schnitzel.
Now that Christmas was sadly over, the New Year was on its way! On New Year's Eve we had a very special celebration. It is a Swiss tradition to have cheese fondue and kids champagne to celebrate the New Year, so my grandparents prepared the special meal.
After eating, we lit off table bombs. The table bombs were typically shaped as a pig or as chimney sweepers. These things are told to bring good luck for the New Years! It was almost as if good luck itself was coming out of the bomb!
After Christmas Eve,the next day was also filled with excitement! My family and I traveled to Braunwald and went sledding! There was only one down hill sledding hill, and we raced down it! It was so cool because you could see all of the skiers speeding down past you all at once!
It is always fun being in competition against your family, and there is nothing that makes me happier, than to see the jealousy in my brothers' eyes when I beat them down the hill!
The trip was really a great experience! I am so thankful that I got to travel all the way to Switzerland to be with my family, and I am so glad that I got to do everything I did! One advantage of being in a large family is that we always have so much fun together!
On this trip, we were all together and had the time of our lives, whether it was sledding in competition against each other, seeing a reenactment of the birth of Jesus, or just having a good meal together on New Years Eve! I am truly thankful and appreciative towards my grandparents and family for making the trip happen!
Happy Birthday Grosmi! We love you guys!
