Dear Reader, This is my portfolio. In it is all of the work I’ve done in my American Diversity class. Making this was pretty easy, actually. All you had to do was screenshot/scan things to use as artifacts, copy the standards and SWLOs, and write a reflection of the project. I think I’ve made a lot of progress as a learner. In the past I never wanted to pay attention when the facilitator was talking. I would always argue with them whenever they tried to discipline me. I never really had good grades, although I know that I could have. Now, I have As and Bs. I’m really proud of the work I’ve been doing. I think one of my strengths is caring. If I see someone upset or hurt I always try to help them, even if we don’t like each other. I’m also really good at explaining what to do, as long as I understand the concept. I’m usually able to explain things in a way that everybody will understand. I can be a pretty fast learner, too. I catch onto things pretty quick. | Introduction

One of my weaknesses at the beginning of the year was procrastination. I’ve worked on that and gotten a lot better, though I haven’t completely fixed that yet. Another one of my weaknesses was my attitude. I’ve worked on the way I talk to others a lot this year, and now I’m able to handle myself and control my anger. I’m also pretty bad at staying on task. I still sometimes get distracted, but not as often as usual. I think the best work that I’ve done this year would have to be the last project, Code Name I think this is because all of the things I’ve been working on this year came together. I found more than one document, I made a whole prezi by myself, and I learned tons of information. Also, it was a really fun project. I’ve learned to use technology in many different ways this year. I learned how to use mixbook.com. It’s a place where you can make yearbooks, guest books, wedding books, etc. I think it’s a really cool site. I also learned how to work prezi.com better. Before, I couldn’t even put pictures in. Now, I know how to put pictures and videos in, and do a lot of other things. This has been a pretty great year for me. I want to thank you for reading my portfolio. Sincerely, Amber Garrett

 New World | SWLOs: Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication Oral Communication Agency | ELA Standards: ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2a ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.1 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.2 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1a ELA-Lit.L.11-12.4 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.8 | History Standards: Standard 1 - Early National Development: 1775 to 1877 USH.1.1 USH.1.2 USH.1.3

In this project we had to prove the quote "To be free, one must be chained" by using one of the first 10 amendments. I understand that a lot has changed since the times when the Constitution was written. I learned that you're never completely free, there is always limitations. This project shows that I mastered the standards ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2a and ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.1. I explained everything in a very easy way and I submitted multiple resources.

 Rise of Industry

Standards: ELA-Lit.RL.11.12.1 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.10 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.3 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.4 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.5 | SWLOs: Collaboration Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication Oral Communication Agency | I don't exactly have an artifact for this project. The truth is, I didn't really care for this project. The only really interesting, yet sad, thing that I learned in this project was that many of the workers had died making the railroad.

 User Guide

Standards ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1c ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2a ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2b ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.5 | SWLOs Agency Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication | In this project we had to make a User Guide. I know, it's weird. Usually, those are just for devices/products. Well, we had to pretend that we were. This product gave people an idea of how to deal with us when we're in certain "modes." I think I mastered standard ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2b. I chose facts about myself that were important to me. They're things that I think people should know about me.

 Student-Led Conference

I thought the student-led conference was fun. I got to tell my mom all of the work that I was doing, and show her some of it. I liked that better than a teacher showing her. This gave me a chance to try and explain myself before she got mad. Though, there wasn't really much to get mad about. She's proud that I've been doing better than in previous years.

Bucket List | Pass English ECA Have straight A’s for the 2nd semester Get back the credits that I missed last year Get all of my work turned in, including past assignments Start doing more things outside of the house Be less sarcastic Get a job Spend more time with my family Start doing more for the school and community Lose 30 pounds 12 Activities/Goals to accomplish by June 2015 - Senior Year Get accepted to a good college Have straight A's for my whole senior year Graduate Pass my SATs with a high score Pass my ACTs Go to senior prom Face my fear of driving Get my license Rent a house/apartment Hold down a job Spend as much time as possible with friends Completely rid procrastination from my vocabulary Get accepted to law school Be more open to people reading my writings Still be practicing acting Start classes to become a psychiatrist Graduate from college Stay in touch with my friends Be an intern for another lawyer Have a high GPA Join clubs/groups Don’t drop any courses Keep grades up, while holding a job Don’t move back home after college Get my dream car (1964 Chevy Impala Convertible) Take some summer classes to finish sooner Read A LOT more 13 Activities/Goals to accomplish by June 2025 (TEN YEAR PLAN) Almost have my law degree Get married Have a family Own/be renting to own my own house Take classes on acting Own a zoo Be living in the south Honeymoon in Ireland Tour through Europe one summer Start a college fund for my kids Make a “rainy day” fund Belong to a gym, and go regularly Keep in contact with my family often

In this little mini project we had to make a bucket list. It had to be four different sections. I liked that because it helps to organize what you want to accomplish. I mastered the standard ELA-Lit.L.11-12.5. I had to erase and redo a lot of my goals because I had either already accomplished them or they weren't as important as others. | SWLOs: AGENCY WRITTEN COMMUNICATION KNOWLEDGE AND THINKING | Standards ELA-Lit.L.11-12.10 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.4 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.5 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.6

 PASSED MY ECA!!!!!!!

ECA | I passed my ECA! I'm so happy about this. I knew that I could do it, but I don't think I could have without the help of Mrs. Wierzbicki. She can be pretty mean at times, but I know that she really cares. I'd like to thank her for everything.

 2014 | Olympic Press

Standards ELA-Lit.L.11-12.10 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1a ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1b ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1c ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1d ELA-Lit.L.11-12.1e ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2b ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2c ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2d ELA-Lit.L.11-12.7 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.8 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.1 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.2 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.6 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.7 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.7 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.1 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.2 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.7 | SWLOs Collaboration Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication Agency | This project was cool. I learned a lot about the Olympics. I had never really followed them before this. I thought it was pretty fun. I think that I mastered "Smore." I really like that website and I learned a lot of things to do with it. I also made a picture for the project. My main difficulty was writing the original piece. I just didn't really know what I could write about, that so many other people haven't already. Curling is a pretty hard sport to write about, but it's really interesting.

Student-Led Conference | I like student-led conferences because I get to show my mom my progress myself, rather than a teacher doing it. I get the see the excitement/disappointment first hand. I also get a chance to explain myself when I mess up, rather than my mom having a whole car ride home to get angrier. I think I mastered explaining things. Every time we have these conferences, I have to explain to my mom what everything is.

POTUS | This project was about the Presidents of the United States. We were given a president supposed to do research and tell whether or not we thought that he was a good president, and then explain why. My president was Thomas Jefferson. I liked learning about him because he was a great and humble man. I think that I mastered ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.1 because I found good evidence to support my groups theory.

Standards ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.6 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.8 ELA-Lit.RI.11-12.9 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.1 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.2 ELA-Lit.RL.11-12.4 | SWLOs Collaboration Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication Oral Communication Agency

 Code Name

Standards ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.1 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.2 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.3 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.4 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.5 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.6 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.8 ELA-Lit.RH.11-12.9 ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.2a ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.2b ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.2c ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.2d ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.2e ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.7 ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.8 ELA-Lit.WHST.11-12.9 ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2a ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2b ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2c ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2d ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2e ELA-Lit.L.11-12.2f | SWLOs Collaboration Knowledge and Thinking Written Communication Oral Communication Agency | I thought this was the best project by far. I had trouble finding a primary source document was pretty difficult, but other than that it was pretty interesting. I liked learning about all of the progress that was made in a short amount of time. Another part of the project that I liked was the presentation. It was so much easier and less more intimidating. I think we should present this way more often. I think I mastered primary source documents, mainly because I assisted most of my group in finding theirs.

In the Luxury or Necessity essay I got a 5/6, but I only got "Advanced" on one of the three standards. In the Code DQ essay I got a 5/6 and "Advanced" on two of the three standards. I grew in the way that I organize what I write. In the Luxury or Necessity essay I had 41 mistakes with the style. In the Code DQ essay I had 29 style errors. I believe that I have gotten a lot better with the repeating words. | I didn't really grow as a reader, I've hardly read at all this year. I don't want to try and make excuses as to why. I just wanted to say that I honestly haven't had time to do read, other than at midnight. I have many responsibilities at home. My mother doesn't have a license and my dad works, so me and my boyfriend do a lot of the grocery shopping, dropping people of mostly everything that has to be done in a vehicle. When I did have extra time, I spent it looking for a job. I love to read, but sometimes you should have priorities and my family is mine. I mean no disrespect and I know that school should come first but my priorities are a little different.

Thank you for reading my portfolio. I hope you enjoyed looking at all of the work that I’ve done. It wasn’t easy, but I’m glad I did it. I gave me a chance to reflect on the things that I need to work on. I believe that this portfolio helps to show that I’m ready to be a senior. I’ve made a lot of progress, though I still have a lot to work on. I have gotten a lot better at the way that I listen and learn. I think this portfolio says that I’m a work-in-progress. It shows my growth, but it also shows the areas that I need to improve in. I still need to work on my organization skills. I should try and stop repeating things too much. I also need to fix my procrastination completely. I’ve gotten better, but I’m still not the best I could be. I think those are two of the main problems I have when it comes to school at this point. Honestly, I think I deserve at least a B+ on this portfolio. I worked really hard and most of my artifacts I made myself. Aside from the About Me section, I did everything when it was due. I also think I deserve a B in the class. I’ve done all of my work this year. I put everything that I had into a lot of my work. The thing that I think would hold me back is the reading.

I tried to read but I never had time, I just hope it doesn’t bring my grade down too bad. I’m actually really relieve that I finished this portfolio, I didn’t think I was going to have it done by the time that it was due. It wasn’t really hard or anything, just pretty time consuming. I’m really proud of myself for learning how to keep my mouth shut. I’m surprised that I was able to do it, because I’ve been a smart aleck all of my life. Next year I will definitely make sure that I get all of my work done on time, no matter how long it takes me. I’m determined to get straight As next year. I will use my new skills on Wix and Smore to help my boyfriends mom create a page to sell the jewelry that she makes. This portfolio shows that as long as I try, I’m good at what I do. Thanks again for reading my portfolio. It really means a lot that you would take time out of what you needed to do to read about all of the things that I finished this year. The things in this portfolio actually mean very much to me, even though I thought it was stupid at first.
