1: The Cypress Dietetic Association consists of 24 members that promote nutrition and wellness in Polk, Hardee, Highlands, Glades, and Okeechobee counties. For the 2012-2013 year, CDA reached out to the community through local events and volunteer activities. Some of our members were featured in local publications in Polk County as well.

4: CDA participated in the city of Winter Haven's Main Street Market Day throughout the year. Family Fun and Fitness at the Fountain provided the community with a variety of nutrition information and a way to get fit. Handouts were provided on healthy school lunch ideas, eating right during the holidays and general healthful tips.
5: Every first Saturday of the month from September until May, members encouraged healthy eating habits while engaging the community in fitness activities with local gyms--YMCA, L.A.Fitness, Tiger's World, Total Fitness, Gold's Gym and Chain of Lakes Crossfit. | Family Fun and Fitness at the Fountain
6: Alyssa Russo, Senior Clinical Dietitian at Winter Haven Hospital, was featured in the Q&A section of "Your Health" in the local newspaper, The Lakeland Ledger. Alyssa discussed the recent research between soy products and cancer. Current healthful recommendations for soy based products were provided as well.
7: Jamie Moore, Clinical Nutrition Manager at Lake Wales Medical Center, assisted with an article for Polk County Health News, a local magazine dedicated to health and wellness information for Polk County. Jamie helped create a pop quiz for emotional eating. The questions were aimed at identifying the types of comfort foods, triggers that make you eat and determining between physical hunger and emotional hunger.
8: This year for National Nutrition Month, CDA members volunteered with Polk County's KidsPACK to help pack non-perishable food items to provide to disadvantaged children. We worked with members of Highland Park Church of the Nazarene to pack 150-200 meals on each packing day to help keep the kids of Polk County happy and healthy!
9: Jennifer Patzkowsky, Registered Dietitian for the Polk County School Board, wrote an article incorporating and helping individualize this years theme, "Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day" for the "Your Health" section of The Lakeland Ledger in the month of March. | Local radio station, Talk 1430 WLKF, in Lakeland helped promote the message of NNM this year by broadcasting both a 30-second and 60-second public service announcement. Great way to promote NNM and CDA!
10: The dietitians at Winter Haven Hospital put together a fruit and vegetable promotion during the month of March for the employees. The more fruits and vegetables that were purchased provided employees with a chance to win Publix giftcards and the cookbook "1,000 Low Calorie Recipes" | The dietitians created a display table that had nutrition handouts,food models and lipo/sugar visuals to help promote healthy eating and portion control. A poster board was created focusing on each dietitian and their specialty and a description of their role as a clinical dietitian.
11: The dietetics students at Keiser University in Lakeland tapped into the Campus Wellness Initiative by promoting National Nutrition Month. The students created interactive displays on RD Day and provided healthy snack samples and recipes. They also created Eat Right, Your Way bulletin boards in both buildings on campus throughout the month.
