1: What we came home too on Saturday, April 18, 2009

2: The National Guard came out to Assess

3: We were told to evacuate...the water was coming..we sandbagged instead. | The Sheyenne River broke out of its banks and was heading right toward our property

5: the story begins....

6: The Salvation Army came to feed all the volunteers

7: Setting up and getting a system ready before the sand baggers arrive... | Thanks to the Torgersons and the use of their tractors | Our sandpile we ordered I guess didnt go too far. They came with already made sandbags.

8: THE SANDBAGGING BEGINS | Over 60 people came

10: Notice the orange slip on the front door in the picture below. It was an "Evacuation Notice with instructions... Within 2 hours we were sandbagged instead.

11: CRAZY WHO YOU MEET This is my long lost cousin in the picture BELOW. He has lived in Davenport for several years and knows us but has kept it to himself all this time... until he showed up to help us sandbag he introduces himself to us. I never knew him. He even looks like a "Schmidt".

12: The Pallets came in handy as the water kept rising

14: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED...on to the next...

47: LAKE ANDERSON | I imagined myself at a resort on vacation.

48: The water gradually disappeared and we were able to go on with our lives. The sandbags disappeared in mid July.

49: Room with a view

51: Many days of hot sun and wind did it's glorious job of drying things up and the farmers were able to get there crops in the field.

56: I hope you enjoyed our 2009 Flood Album I just created. It is April of 2011 and we are anticipating another flood very similar to this one. Not sure of the emotions I am having with having to possibly go through it all over again, but one thing I should say, I do look forward to my feathered friends coming back to visit. We'll be sure to let you know if they do.
