FC: Chapters 3-6 | Fond Memories
May 2007 I was in San Diego for my annual Engineering Conference. Alex surprised me by showing up in California. I could not believe he flew across the country to see me. He greeted me in the lobby of my hotel. What a wonderful surprise! I was overwhelmed with joy and so happy to see him. You should have seen my face. Totally shocked! Not sure how he pulled it off without me knowing, but he did. He arrived the evening of Tuesday May 8th, but my conference wasn't over until the 9th. This meant I couldn't spend time with him. Anticipation is something else. | Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen
Thursday May 10th We enjoyed the sights of San Diego. | We tried to see as much as we could but our tourist time was limited.
Alex had planned to be in California for only 4 days. | Talk about bad planning!
Our years of dating was filled with fun and surprises. We always did stuff for each other. While Alex and I were touring the town, my mind pondered on how I was going to top this. I could not believe he flew across the country to see me!
Thursday evening May 10th Down town San Diego Sunset | I guess the sunset set the tone for the real reason Alex came to San Diego. Later that evening Alex proposed to me! He was on his knee during his proposal then he showed me the ring. I grabbed the ring and put it on (crying with tears of joy). All the while I didn't answer him. So he was still on his knee and said you didn't answer me. Of course you know my answer was YES! I repeatedly said Yes while kissing and hugging him. All should know it was three years before I got this proposal.
Friday May 11th - Enjoying our Engagement at Balboa Park

Saturday May 12th Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego
A few more hours to spend together before Alex catches the red eye back to DC. | I can't believe he's leaving so soon! I guess his mission was already accomplished.
Silver Strand Beach on Coronado Island is known for it's golden sand. The sparkling sand is fine and has gold flakes. The flakes are actually mica (mineral rarely found in beach sand) The background of this page is a picture of the sand. | Needless to say Alex had to catch his flight back to DC, so I spent the rest of my days in California alone.
 Engagement Photos

 Dinosaur's mouth
We had been in Aruba for only two days. Two beautiful sunny days. Then it started to rain. | This is the view of another hotels parking lot from our window. It kept raining for three days straight. Non stop! Turns out this was Tropical storm Omar coming from Venezuela. This later turned into Hurricane Omar.
Wondering why we only have pictures of this parking lot? Well we were stranded. The entire island was flooded! Stranded for three days. All the tours we had planned to do were canceled. Of course all the locals were saying, "we have never seen anything like this". "It's always sunny in Aruba"!
The rain finally stopped. So we ventured back out.
With all the flooding in Aruba our options were limited on things to do. A few tours were running, however there were challenges. Got a picture of one of them. Our tour bus got stuck in a mud hole. Actually a few of them, but this one required some man power.
My Alex deserved a break after all that pushing.
I had to put this in here. We did not get pictures of our ATV tour in Aruba. We were sort of focusing on living. Our tour guide Geno was crazy. What a dare devil! Good thing I was prepped up from my trip prior to our honeymoon. Two weeks before our wedding day I was in Salt Lake City, Utah for my Engineering Conference. I did an ATV tour in the mountains. At first I was intimidated from the height. Looking down did not help! Check out the mountain Stats. SNOWBIRD MOUNTAIN STATS Average Annual Snowfall: 500" Vertical Drop: 3,240' Base Elevation: 8,100' Top Elevation: 11,000' | We started from here. Base elevation 8,100'
The mountain top views were beautiful, and breath taking (literally).
We just celebrated our 2nd year Anniversary in Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately, we did not have a camera. The only pictures we have were from our Zip line tour in the jungle. The jungle trails were in the Sierra Madre Mountains.
Rappelling! This is the top of the rappel drop!
Tarzan Swing | It was a lot scarier than this picture looks! | Rough Landing (with a sprained ankle)
Alex's landing could not be caught on camera! He came in so fast he almost knocked the guys down. | The last rappel.
Rhythm of the Nights tour in Puerto Vallarta | Moving on from the heat in Mexico to the cold back home. Welcome to ICE at the Gaylord National Harbor.
