 The Indian history
Lots of the Indian tribes were determined by the language they spoke - like the Algonquian, Siouan, and the Iroquioan. The Iroquois are known for deer hunting and there are about 80,000 of them still left in the world. The Siouan are excellent mound builders, they farmed crops, and they traded and hunted. The Algonquian mostly lived in the Coastal Plain Region, and 32 out of the 40 Algonquian tribes came together as the Powahtons. People are no longer named after the language they speak.
The Archaic Indians and the Eastern Woodland Indians had a more relaxed lifestyle than the Paleo Indians. The Eastern Woodland Indians created a new weapon called the bow and arrow which made there hunting easier. The Archaic Indians used a tool called an atlatl which is more advanced then some other tools you might find. The Eastern Woodland Indians also planted crops, made pottery, and traded lots of stuff that could be useful. Lots of people now have a more advanced lifestyle than any Indians had back then.
The lives of the Native Americans have been negatively influenced since English settlement. Many of the Indians were wiped out by European diseases. The Indians were not allowed to marry white people because of the Racial Integrity Act Law. Education was limited for the children, so they had to go to a mission school or move out of state to somewhere far away. When the English arrived they took over land, so the Indians had less room to hunt and fish. People now accept that the Native Americans were treated poorly
 Bob McDonnell
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell declared November Native American Heritage month. Bob McDonnell also signed proclamations for each of the eleven state recognized tribes. The Virginia's natural resources manager believes we should be partnered with the tribes and raise awareness of their present day lives. The state and tribal governments are working together to update the standards of learning (SOL) in Virginia. Six tribes are still not federally recognized.
