The wealthier you were back in the time of the Anglo-Saxon period, the more meat you were supplied with. All of the animals that were killed, had more than one purpose. Sheep were killed for wool and meat, cows were killed for milk, hides and meat, bones from bulls were used for belt-ends, needles and ice skates and hollow bones from ducks and geese were used for musical pipes.

Horns such as these from bulls were used for drinking purposes.

The task of the Anglo-Saxon women was to be the housewife and prepare all of the meals. They used leaves and clay to wrap their food while it cooked in large stoves, frying pans, spiral griddles and cauldrons. Many stews and soups were made and bread was a part of the daily diet.

There were two ways of feasting back in the Anglo-Saxon time period; Either a spontaneous celebration took place or feast that took several days of long preparation.

Exotic foods such as potatoes, tomatoes, bananas and pineapples were unheard of. Oats were used for animal fodder and porridge. Many vegetables had quite a bland taste so herbs and spices were used to give them more flavor.

Fish was a main part of the diets of the Anglo-Saxon's. They ate all different types such as such as salmon, eel, flounder, shellfish, oyster and mussels.
