5: Supposedly female slaves would be sacrificed on the death of a male owner in order to accompany him to the next world

6: The Anglo-Saxons moved toward Christianity in 597 AD. The change was influenced by Celtic Christianity from the north-west and by the Roman Catholic Church from the south-east.

7: The first Archbishop of Canterbury, Agustine baptized the first Christian Anglo-Saxon king, Ethelberht of Kent in 601 AD

8: The church was a very important force in society; the only truly national entity tying together the different Anglo-Saxon kingdoms
