FC: Animals Grandma and Grandpa Saw on Their Trip Around the World 2011

What do the eagles see looking down on the savannah from their perch high up in the tree? They see these animals:

Who is wallowing, stomping and blowing smelly bubbles in the water all day long?

It is the giant hippopotamus! | ...but in the evening the hippos get out of the pond and eat juicy grasses

What else does the eagle see? | It sees a spotted hyena who is expecting her babies, which are called pups. She is looking for food. Where could she find some? By following a leopard...

When the hyena sees the leopard snoozing way up high in the tree she knows that there is food nearby because the leopard is a fast hunter. The leopard killed an antelope for his dinner. But because the antelope was too much food for the leopard the hyenas and vultures and eagles get to share it as do many bugs who love the left overs.

The eagle has several friends, big birds just like him. They like him because the eagle has big, strong talons that can rip open a carcass. The other birds don't have them and have to wait for the eagle. Only after the eagle has done the hard work do the marabou and vulture get to eat. | This is a marabou | These are vultures | This is an eagle

but....the birds really should not sit on the grass. SOMEBODY is watching them and it is the fastest animal on earth. | Another big, beautiful bird is the stork, but it catches its own food in the ponds and grass

 It is the CHEETAH!

Grant's gazelle | Thompson's gazelle | Topi | The gazelles stop eating and are get ready to run away should the cheetah want to chase and eat them.

..but then the danger passes and the gazelles start to eat again, the babies jump around chasing each other while the older ones sit down to digest the food. | Impalas

There are tens of thousands of Wildebeest also know as gnu who roam long distances to find fresh grasses and guess who leads them? | The Cape or African buffaloes are very curious and have very wet noses.

The zebra does! And often there is a small passenger sitting on it getting a ride! But watch out zebra, somebody likes you for dinner! Who could that be?

 The LION! That's who!

A family of lions is called a"pride". They often hide in the grass during the day and hunt in the evening.

But during the day the lions prefer to lie around and have a long snooze. | This is the father of the lion cubs

and the one without a mane is the mother of lion cubs

The roads Grandma and Grandpa traveled on were REALLY bumpy! The scenery was beautiful and so were the clouds.

 And who could that be?

It is an OSTRICH! It has a long pink neck, beautiful big eyes with long eyelashes and powerful pink thighs which enables it to run almost as fast as a cheetah.

Who else has a LONG neck? these beautiful birds? | NO!

We do! We are giraffes of course!

And whom do we see on the horizon?

 Enormous elephants!

Stop! The elephants want to cross the road!

 Baby elephants like playing hide-and-seek

 Grown-up elephants are REALLY big!

These monkeys were in Masai Mara and came into the rooms if we weren't careful! They have sharp teeth.

These monkeys are in Cambodia and are not afraid of humans at all.

The panda lives in the zoo in Bejing but all the other animals we saw live free on the game reserve in Kenya. | This is how some of the heads look on the inside, the bones are called skulls. Aren't they beautiful too?

Our favorite little bird, the lilac breasted roller.
