1: Geography | Group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, hilly, surrounded by coral reefs, volcanic mountains created the islands, about 570 miles from the NC coast, about 150 different islands

2: Climate | Climate is subtropical or mild in the winter, spring, and fall, but from May to October it is especially hot with high humidity (75 to 85 degrees), moderate rainfall

3: Affects on Food Production | Although almost eighty percent of the food in Bermuda is imported, hurricanes and periods of drought affect the local vegetable production

5: Size: 21 square miles, 64,600 people Main Language:English is the main language spoken in Bermuda because of the high tourism levels Religious Influences: Christianity

6: History | Initially discovered by Juan de Bermudez in 1505 Admiral Sir George Somer's ship headed for Jamestown crashes along the reefs Slaves were introduced to the island in 1616 Island becomes a British colony in 1684 Slavery is abolished in 1834 The formation of political parties forms under the general overseeing of the British government- Progressive Labor Party and United Bermuda Party

7: Native Customs and Beliefs: Roof Wetting: When a new building is constructed, the owners go on to of the roof and pour black seal rum down it for good luck and good luck for water supply | Moon Gates: Used as a good luck symbol, newly weds are told to walk under them for good fortune in their marriages, adopted from the Chinese

8: Afternoon Tea: Every day Bermudians have a tea break around 4 p.m. They take a break from work to enjoy a small snack and tea. Easter Willies: In the past, the lilies were grown as a main product before tourism took over. Every year a bouquet of the lilies are sent to the Queen of England on her birthday

9: Food Festivals | Culinary Arts Festival: Festival held by all the hotels on the island annually, people are able to sample cuisines specifically from the island as well as global recipes

10: Local Recipes | Breakfast: Codfish cakes, eggs, avocado Lunch/Dinner: Shark Hash

11: Lunch/Dinner: Mac and cheese or Rice and peas(beans) Rum cake is common because Black Seal Rum is produced locally

12: Common and Exotic Foods | Common foods are local fish and codfish, starches like rice and pasta, and other locally produced foods | More exotic foods like Conch Stew and Shark Hash were once local recipes

13: Herbs and Spices | Cilantro:Strong odor and flavor, ‘soapy’ Basil:Highly fragrant herb, sweet and bright green, large leaves Parsley:Bright green, curly or flat leaves, long stems Chives:Light onion flavor, green , long and slender Anise: star-shaped, light brown, woody, faint licorice taste
