FC: BRIGHAM YOUNG By Tommy Gleason

1: Brigham Young was born on June 1, 1801, in Whitingham, Vermont. He died August 29, 1877, at age 76.

2: Brigham led his followers, Mormon pioneers, on an exodus through the dessert to what they saw was a promised land.

3: Young led them to Salt Lake City, Utah, which he founded. Utah is now the state with the highest Mormon population.

4: BrighamYoung became the first governor of the Utah Territory.

5: In 1847, Brigham became the President of The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints.

6: Brigham Young had a very big family. He had 55 wives, 54 of them became Latter-Day Saints. Young also had 54 children.

7: Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah was named in his honor.

8: Young helped revoke priesthood and temple-blessings from black members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

9: Young was drawn to Mormonism after reading the Book of Mormon in 1830.

10: Brigham Young died August 29, 1877 at age 76 due to a ruptured appendix.
