S: Cats of Phi Phi Island Thailand Liora Krasnow

BC: Phi Phi Island, known formally as Koh Phi Phi Don, is the larger of two small islands located off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. Ton Sari Village, the most developed area of the island, attracts a high amount of backpackers, tourists, and yes, you guessed it; cats! With a high Muslim population, the islanders have a predisposition towards these felicitous felines. Muhammad is said to have loved his cat Muezza so much that "he would do without his cloak rather than disturb one that was sleeping on it." Every cat that I encountered during my stay on Phi Phi island was incredibly friendly. Even those that appeared to be essentially homeless were tame and sociable. While it was clear that these stray cats were not mistreated, it was also apparent that many suffered from neglect. Many had not been spayed or neutered, and presented evidence of previous trauma and skin conditions. Despite any of these ailments however, each and every cat was exquisite in its own right. This book showcases the beauty and variety of the cats of Phi Phi Island.
