Chance in France By: Logan Moonie

I'm only ten years old and my name is Baily Chance. Right now I live in Europe in a country we call France.

The Enlightenment in Europe had an impact on all its people.

It focused on the reasons and the thoughts of individuals.

It started with some English neighbors in the 1700s | who had different views on humans and the government.

Thomas Hobbes, on one hand, said a monarchy would have an impact. | He even had an idea in which he called the social contract.

On the other hand there was John Locke who had a different view on things. He said that through experience we could become better beings.

He stated that we were born with rights like property, liberty, and life, And that the government was supposed to protect all of our rights.

My cousin is Voltaire and he's got enemies in court, And all because his temper was a little bit too short!

He fought for freedom of religion, and the freedom to speak aloud, And if it weren't for all the enemies he made I'd be a bit more proud!

He'll ruffle my hair and say "Bailey we should be like them." | My daddy's friend Montesquieu favors the British government. "

He had ideas on checks and balances and power's separation. And these ideas became the basis for the US Constitution.

There's another philosophe I know named Jean Jacques Rousseau. | Who was passionately committed to individual freedom.

But Mr Rousseau and my favorite aunt Mary Wollstonecraft... | Argued about women's position in life, and that's a definite fact.

Aunt Mary thought that women and men's education was the same | But Rousseau said that women should come second to a man.

Though these people are not like Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei | They will still make a difference in the years to be.

They go to the corner salon But not to get their hair done

When I asked my dad if I could go He just looked at me and said no.

He said, "This is an important gathering and you can't be apart of such a thing!"

The Enlightenment was reflected in literature and also in architecture.

they used art styles like baroque. | Art got even more magical | with a style called neoclassical | As soon as people woke,

Enlightenment will spread And now this is the end of what you have read.
