3: Data from Consumer Safety commission shows that cheerleading accidents have gone from nearly 5,000 to about 26,000 to 28,000 in the past few years

4: According to the National center for catastrophic injury cheerleading accounts for about 65 to 66% of all female catastrophic injuries in either high school or college

5: the spinal cord is a vital part of our (CNS). which is our central nerve system

6: the actual spinal cord is protected by a bony structure called the vertabral column a simple sprain can cause paralysis and even death

7: 14 year old Laura Jackson had everything going for her when in her High school cheer tryouts she tried a back flip landing on her neck and fracturing her spinal cord now she is paralyzed from her neck down and breaths through a ventilator A mother's love will stay with you forever, and touch your life in every way."

8: the spinal cord is the largest nerve in the body it can be divided into 4 parts cervical,thoracic, lumbar, and sacral

9: then they are divided into 2 big parts Cervical being the upper half and Lumbar being the lower part

10: the spinal cord is the longest nerve in your body conecting the entire body and acting as a communication system for the entire body

11: The brain acts as the central office of this communication system sending out commands to the entire body through the spinal cord.

12: the most common type of spinal injury occurs in the neck, which are the C-4, C-5, and C-6 levels

13: These injuries in cheerleading can relate to tumbling and stunts all very important in today's nation wide cheer teams

14: the 2ed most common injury is in the T-12 are which is right bellow the rib cage

15: this is most common in bases, backspots, and can occur while in a high jump

16: RECOVERY!!! recovery is a very long road and can be very painful but is also rewarding today there are many new therapies and technology that are making a break through in science and allowing cheerleaders get back on their feet
