1: History of Huntington's - Huntington's disease was discovered by George Huntington in 1872. - It wasn't until 1993 that they found the gene that caused HD.

3: Genetic Disorder - Mutations in the HTT gene causes HD. - HTT makes protein called Huntingtin. - The 3 parts of the DNA ( CAG ) appear in the gene 36 to 120 times. - Auntosomal dominant.

4: Who is affected by Huntington's Disease ? | Nationwide, there are 30,000 people with HD. Women and men are affected equally as much. It more commonly appears in about 30 - 50 years of age, but can be found as early as 2 years old. The younger you are, the faster the disease attacks.

6: Emotionally - Irritable - depressed - anxious - mood swings - social withdrawl | The Effects

7: Physically - Fidgety - Involuntary movements - uncoordinated - difficulties swallowing, talking or walking | Mentally - short term memory loss - unorganized - troubles concentrating

8: Treatments ? Sadly, as of now there are no cures or treatments for Huntington's Disease.

9: Prognosis - death bound disease - Once diagnosed, you have about 10-20 years to live. - Most die from the effects of HD, not from the disease itself. - Life changes completely. You will become dependent on someone else completely. - Discriminated against your job , health insurance carrier and all people that look at you.
