Popes | The pope had great economic power that he gained from collecting taxes. People who did not obey the church rules were threatened with being excommunicated. Which means being expelled from membership in the church and participation in church life. In public popes usually wear a white simar over their regular street clothes. The pope's simar is white and includes a matching cape. Which is draped across the chest and back and ends at the elbow. The pope lives in a Vatican city in Rome. There is a building in Vatican called the "Pope Palace" it is full of offices and rooms. Within the building there are a few rooms called the "Papal Apartment" that only popes are allowed to use.

The daily life of a Medieval monks was based on three main vows . The vow of Poverty .The vow of Chasity . The vow of Obedience | A nun who is praying to her god. | A nun is a member of a religious community of women. Nuns also follow the three vows- poverty, chasity, and obedience. Nuns did whatever the monks did. But nuns did not live in the Monasteries, they lived in a convent. | A monk in the medieval days.

Landscape of the Cathedral. | A cathedral was a church. On the outside of the cathedral it had a terrace paving, paths, and patios. Cathedrals had garden walls, decking, ponds, and water features. The cathedrals on the inside had statues of mischievous characters and monsters.

Dear journal, 11-8-11 Today I was elected to be the new pope. I thought that people would like me and support me but they didn't. I was overthrown so I went to one person that would help me... Charlemagne. He got me my power that I deserved. So I crowned him "Holy Roman Emperor" on Christmas Day. Finally, people are listening to me, getting my approval, and support. I think that things will get better in the Middle Ages. I wish I could write more but I go to work. From, Pope Leo III

The work that they created remains in large numbers which include sculpture, manuscripts, stained glass, metalwork, and mosacis. | Art during the middle ages was mainly used to decorate churches | Scenes of courtly love on lady's Ivory | Art In The Middle Ages | This is an example of a stained window on a church. | Stained glass told a story about the saints lives and biblical stories. That's what made the church a special, sacred, dwelling place of an all powerful god. Color was made by using metallic salts. Stained glass was also called "illuminated wall decorations".

Dear journal, 11-9-11 Today I did the same thing I always do I read the bible and I followed the vows. The vows were the vow of poverty, the vow of chasity, and the vow of obedience. Another thing that I do is pray and meditate to God hoping that he can hear me. Today the other monks and I sat in silence and listened to the pope. He gave us a long speech on how he was collecting taxes. Not fun at all. Well, going to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow. From, The toughest monk from the Germanic tribe
