S: Barbara's Celebration Necklace

FC: A Celebration Necklace in honor of Barbara d'Amato Odhner February 12, 2011

To honor you, a woman of great strength, beauty, love, creativity and wisdom, on your 60th birthday...

Happy, Happy Birthday, Barbara-Mom!!! You hear it quite often but I'm going to tell you yet again how truly incredible it is that a woman as beautiful and young-looking as you is turning 60 years old!!! Many, many people are astounded at not only your fountain-of-youth feat but also how lucky they are to know & love such an extraordinary, talented, intelligent, caring, nurturing & loving woman. When thinking of what I wanted to share with you on this momentous occasion, I immediately went over in my mind our years of memories and loving moments together: cooking lessons & private nutritional counseling in the kitchen, countless discussions educating me about the miracle of birth, unforgettable vacations in Corolla, never-ending shopping excursions, middle-of-the-night emergency triage sessions that were scary yet successful, planning/organizing/preparing for so many wonderful family events... And yes, that may be the most important thing of all. Almost 19 years ago I fell desperately & completely in love with your son. And from that moment on I also fell in love with you and my incredible brothers and sister. When I look at this picture of the two of us up in the Cairnwood bridal suite on my wedding day, it epitomizes every emotion I still keep beating deep in my heart: Your family is my family and I am overwhelmingly grateful for being so very loved by you. I covet the unbelievable gift of being a part of your family and I am honored and blessed to be your daughter. I wish you all the love in the world as you continue on your life's journey! I am so glad I get to join you on it! I love you!!! All my love, ~Christa

Dear Barbara, As we celebrate your 60th years of life, I am keenly aware of the exponential love and life you have generated while gracing this planet. I experience that love and life most intimately with your children, all of whom are gentle, curious, loving souls who have enriched my life in their own unique way. More indirectly, but perhaps more prolifically -with the loving wisdom of your hands and heart- you have brought peace to this planet, one precious and sacred birth at a time. Your understanding of the Feminine seems infinite. With profound humility you are not only midwifing in new generations of souls, but you are also midwifing in our evolution as a species. And for that, I am in awe and am endlessly grateful. Your contribution has been essential and magnificent. My wish for you is that you know your magnificence deep in your heart. | Joseph, as you know, is my joy. He lights me up and makes every moment of life worthwhile. The fact that his mother is someone (who I of course am indebted to for raising him) I deeply admire, respect and love is a privilege I don't take for granted. Thank you for the many rich layers of love and life you have generated. It is something worthy of celebration on a daily basis. With all my love, gratitude and admiration, Kristin

Dear MomMom, You touched us first and even before those moments, we were better because of you. You loved our mother so she could love us; you taught her so she could take care of us. And whatever paths we take in this world, your love, hard work and wisdom will be embedded in our footprints. We love you. Kaitlin Sage & Alexis Claire

Dear Mom, Happy 60th Birthday! It was my great honor to put this book together for you...what a gift to read how important and appreciated MY mother is to so many, for so many different reasons. As your daughter, I appreciate your constant sacrifice and determination to provide for our family. I admire your boundless creative energy in the many beautiful forms it takes. I treasure the times you stepped away from everything else in your life in order to be fully there for me, offering your professional expertise, and your motherly love, around the births of my girls. It seems that you were always (and still are) there for us when it really mattered most -- quite impressive given how many others you are "there" for, in very significant ways, on a daily basis. I love you. ~Lisa PS: I hope you'll excuse how long it took me to finish this book...something about perfectionism and issues with finishing projects...not sure where I got those. ;)

Happy birthday Mom Mom. I love you very much and hope you have a really good birthday. Love, Sadie

Dear Barbara, Thank you for being a strong and nurturing feminine figure in my life. You really enriched my childhood, and are a large part of who I am today. I credit you with sparking my love for food and cooking, by introducing me to amazing new flavors, and making cooking a delicious meal look easy. As obsessed as I am with culinary delights, it is not the only thing I appreciate about you. I always felt like you supported me and tried to focus more on areas where I thrived, which really contributed to my self esteem and the embracing of my individuality. I know taking on six more children (with ADD) wasn't easy, but I'm so glad you were, and continue to be, part of our life. I love you very much, and hope you have a wonderfully fulfilling life, however you decide to spend it. Happy 60th! - Carla

Dear Barbara/Mom-mom, You have given so much to me! Thank you so much for taking me into your home during high school, sharing so much health wisdom and instruction with me, and most of all for bringing my three beautiful children into the world. I'm so grateful! - Lizzy

The sisti-uglies hair! | Here's to our hair, so full and consuming. But horses don't care, it's their coats that need grooming.

Dear Barbara, Happy Birthday!!! Wishing you the very best in the decades to come while enjoying your loving family and friends and loads of quality equine time. And, maybe we can trail ride together real soon. Looks like it's been a few years! Love you, Lisa

Dear Aunt Barbara, You are far too beautiful to be turning 60! I guess it's the beauty with all the wisdom you possess. I feel truly blessed for every year you've been part of our family. You've been generous, kind and understanding from day one. I looked forward to Thanksgiving in your home every year and every year it was amazing. I am so glad I got to see you the last time I was in town and hope to see you the next time. I know you've touched numerous women's lives with your dedicated work as a midwife. I only wish that when it comes time for me to have children that you could be the one to deliver my babies. Since I am being sent all over the world I guess I will just have to hope my midwife has half the talent you do. You have such a peaceful strength and I am better for knowing you. Love Always, Lauralyn Cooper

Dear Barbara, You have been such a gift to our family in so many ways. Every year I am so grateful for all the work you do to bring our family together on Thanksgiving, and because of it, it is my favorite holiday. I hope you feel all the love we are throwing at you and have the most wonderful of birthdays, with many more to come! Lots of love, Bri

Happy Valentine-Girl! You came to us like a special Valentine gift which we continue to treasure, especially at this time! Take care of your self and preserve all the beautiful sparkling gifts of your nature - like a necklace of precious jewels. Much love, Gramma

Dear Barbara, Thank you for all you have contributed to our family since you became a part of it so many years ago. My girls and I especially have benefitted from your caring and wisdom. Sending much love to you on your 60th birthday, Kris

Dear Barbara, You have been a wonderful presence in our lives over the years. Thank you for contributing a degree of sanity to the Odhner family. It's amazing that you have turned out to be such a unifying force for our scattered selves when we get together once a year for the only consistent Holiday tradition we keep! Your family is such an invaluable addition to ours and we appreciate everything you work so hard to give to the people around you. Love, Danielle, Clara, Reagan and Aven

Happy Birthday Barbara! I feel so blessed to be able to share so many amazing memories with such an extraordinary woman over the past few years. Lots of luck and love always, Abbie

Dear Barbara, You first came into my life over 18 years ago when I was first pregnant. I remember knowing how lucky I was to have found you then, and all these years later, that feeling continues to deepen. You are a gifted midwife, and have helped empower so many women through their pregnancies and births. You helped me to grow so much as a person through both the babies that I was lucky enough to have with you. And when we moved in next door, I was so happy that now I would get to know you in a new way, and I've really loved all our interactions and conversations. I also look forward to many more as the years go by. Thank you for the light and love that you have offered to me and to this world. It is a true blessing to know you. Love, Jenn
