S: Our First Twelve Years
FC: Our First Twelve Years 1999-2011
1: This book is a compilation of pictures of our family from the first twelve years of our marriage. Also included are some pictures of Dave and I together. Our first apartment was in Provo UT just south of BYU campus. I was working in the advisement center for biology and agriculture at BYU and Dave was working for Continuing Education at BYU. Things changed very quickly when Dave decided to go back to school to get a masters degree in statistics, and I quit my job to stay home and have Chloe. Shortly before Chloe's birth, we also moved from Provo to an old home in Mapleton (located on 1600 South) so that we could have some breathing room. The home belonged to Collin Allan whose 102 year old mother had lived there until she passed away 6 months before we moved int. It felt a little bit like we were invading a home where so many memories had been formed. Even with the mice, the raccoons giving birth in the attic, and the birds flying in through the vents, we enjoyed living there very much. It was there that we learned what it is to be parents. The joy of it was a pleasant surprise for me. I had never imagined how much I would enjoy having my own children. It was a wonder. We left when Dave graduated and moved on to get his PhD in BioStatistics at Harvard. Chloe was about 19 months and Abe was two months. Dave and Dad drove the moving van out and Mom flew out with Chloe, Abe and me. I am pretty sure we wouldn't have made it without her. What an adventure! Our time in Boston was wonderful and difficult all rolled into one. That first winter the kids caught every germ possible and I learned how to do more things with one hand than I thought possible. We spent our first two years about seven miles out of the city in Medford. While there we explored the city...although Chloe and Abe won't remember it, they have seen a lot of Boston. Our third year there, we bought a townhouse about an hour west of Boston in Gardner. Dave went into class and school when he needed to but spent most of his time studying in the basement. This is where Wilson joined our family. We stayed there until Dave graduated. What an accomplishment! Then onto BYU! We settled into a little house on Maple Street in Mapleton which is where we are now. We can walk to church, school, the library, Grandma and Grandpa's and Esther's . We've been here for four years, have welcomed Annie into our lives and are so gratelful for our little family!

Abe was 5 weeks old. | Dave's graduation from BYU with his masters degree in Statistics. Happy day!!! | Taking our new little Abe home! Chloe got very sick the day after Abe was born. She ran a fever of 105 for ten days straight. This picture was taken on day four, thus some of us are looking a little less than energetic.
4: Two degrees down, one to go! Mom made a Boston cream pie to celebrate Dave getting into Harvard. Notice Dave's pocket. :-) | The "Mint Green House" on 1st Street in Medford MA. This was the first home we rented in Boston. It was in the thick of an Italian neighborhood. | Outside the School of Public Health | Fenway Park 2002

6: Next stop: west side of Medford. Our first home in Medford turned out to be a little too exciting for us. (police visits, etc.) We lived downstairs from Jodi and Jeremy Manwaring. | Halloween 2003 - Arlington Ward party | Downtown Boston while touring with Sarah Engler
7: Off to the Gardner Ward. We loved this ward. We felt so welcome, needed and loved. | Ferry to Monhegan Island, Maine, Sept 2004 - 5 year Anniversary. We celebrated by going back to the island where we had spent part of our honeymoon. It is an artist's island with VERY few year round residents. The roads consist mostly of trails. When we arrived on the island for our honey moon we went to the miniature general store and bought one of my life's more deliciously memorable meals of peaches, snickers bars and crusty bread. Does it get any better? During this second trip, Chloe and Abe stayed with the Johnsons. It rained the whole time that we were there...which was only two days. So, we found a couple umbrellas in the lobby and hiked in the rain. Great time! | Red Apple Farm apple picking!
