She was disappointed in the way some stories were told, and combined with her desire to draw fantastic creatures and magical worlds (rather than the familiar situations of school and home) inspired her to write her own stories.

Her first book were short and meant for younger readers. Her first longer chapter book for older children was Drachenreiter (Dragon Rider).

Following Dragon rider was Herr de Diebe (The Thief Lord). A young girl who was billengual (English and German) brought Funke to the attention of Barry Cunningham, a publisher and managing director of The Chicken House.

The little girl wanted her favorite author's books in English. Cunningham translated The Thief Lord where it immediately became a New York Times bestseller and stayed in the #2 position for 25 weeks.

It appeared on USA Today bestseller list and was awarded the Mildred L. Batchelder Award, The Book Sense Book of the year Award, and many other awards.

I have read many books by Cornelia Funke. One of them is Inkheart.

Inkheart is about a girl named Meggie and her father, Mo. They both love reading.

However, Mo cannot read aloud to Meggie because of a special ability he has. If he reads about something out loud, it will come alive.

After reading out two villains, he must stop them in time to save the world.
