"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish as fools." -Martin Luther King Jr.
Summary | On November 4, 2011 the FDA released a report that SNOKIST; a company in Washington that supplies fruit products for schools and baby food; had repackaged applesauce with multiple kinds of mold in it. From January 2008 to May 2011 there have been at least 13 times of repacking moldy fruit products. They claim to "rework" the applesauce by heating it to a safe temperature, but the FDA tested it and the applesauce still had Alternaria, Fusarium and two types of Pennicillium that can cause illness.
Applesauce | Significance | This is important because most people at Davies and other schools in the nation eat school lunch. Eating mold can cause serious illness. Children have gotten sick from SNOKIST's applesauce. I believe this will also cause an uprise with parents of school age children and babies. | Moldy Applesauce repacked into food for public schools
On Wednesday November 16, 2011 in Beijing, China a bus with 64 people on it crashed head on with a truck killing 18 kindergartners and two adults. This happens a lot in China since the roads are underfunded and bad driving habits. This crash is causing an uprising in China about how the education system is so underfunded. | China school bus crash killing 18 children | I think this is important to world cultures because it is such an eye opener. This bus had 9 seats with 64 people on it. I am glad that people are stepping up and taking action to this underfunded education system. This has happened before and no one cares. Hopefully this will open people's eyes.
With having flooding since July, on Wednesday November 16, Hillary Clinton announced that the US will give ten million dollars in flood relief for Thailand. The flood has killed 564 people and has affected one-fifth of the population and Thailand being one of our allies we are finally helping them. | Summary
I think this is important to our culture because we are promising money we don't necessarily have to give. I also think though, it is important to help our allies that have helped us. | Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking This is important to our culture because Reno will most likely get aid that we will pay for. | Summary On Sunday November 20, 2011 the Reno fire department is still fighting the fire that has left many families with nothing. It was the second day of protesting for control of the government. | This is important to world cultures because it is such a wonderful reminder of how good our country is.
