1: What was the Civil War? | The Civil War was a battle between The Union (The North) and The Confederacy (The South). The War was mainly over slavery, slaves were really what held up the South's Economy. Farmers in the South used slaves on plantations, to help them pick cotton or do other tasks. The North elected Abraham Lincoln as president, and Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist (someone that wants to do away with slavery) and if Abraham did away with slavery, the South's Economy would virtually be destroyed. The South couldn't let this happen so they seceded (or break away) from The Union and became The Confederate States of America. The Confederates took over Fort Sumter and said that it was theirs. Abraham didn't recognize this, he said that Fort Sumter still belonged to The Union, and that the South didn't break away from The Union, that they too were still part of The United Sates. This brought up The Battle of Fort Sumter. The Confederacy won that battle, even no one was killed. The North gave up, because they were running low on ammunition. The Battle of Fort Sumter started the Civil War. It was a long bloody war, Americans against Americans.
