FC: The Berlin Conflict | By alex thomas
The East and west Berlin border conflict started even before world war 2. While the Allied forces where planning out the invasion of Berlin, the U.S., France, U.K., and the USSR disputed over who would get what part of Berlin. The race was on as the U.S. from the west and the USSR from the east rushed to get to Berlin first to kill Hitler and to claim land.
After the allied forces occupied Berlin, tensions immediately rose as the soviets wanted control over all of Germany, but the U.S. wasn't going to let that happen. Berlin was split up into two different sides, the communist East and the Democratic West.
A wall was built that span across all of Berlin, splitting Germany's capital in two. The wall was made out of multiple layers of reinforced concrete, mixed with wire fences and barbed wire. The wall fell on November 9th, 1989.
As soon as the wall fell, more and more people began to protest and eventually on march 15, 1991, Germany reunited and became a whole Germany again.
