FC: Filbert the Frog | By Matt and Mitchel

We would like to dedicate this book to Sophia Dearth

One day there was a Frog named Filbert. It was a pretty day until it started to rain. Filbert had to get home or else he would drown. The only way to get back home was for Filbert to jump across lily pads. He was an old frog so it was difficult for him to jump across. He thought that "no one should be alone in their old age." (48). especially since "it was difficult in the dark." (52).

Better get started "he thought as he looked down into the dark water." (58). The frog began to jump across the lily pads, but the lily pads began to be further and further away.

Eventually, the distance the frog had to jump was to great for the frog to manage. | Fortunately, Phillis the Fish showed up to help scoot the lily pads closer to Filbert the Frog. Thanks to Phillis, Filbert the Frog could begin jumping home again.

Filbert came once again to a lily pad that he could not jump across, but Phillis could not help him because she had mysteriously vanished. | Thankfully, Feronica the Fly showed up to fly Filbert the Frog to the next lily pad. Strangely, Feronica soon disappeared as well, but Filbert still had a lily pad to cross that was too far away for him to jump.

Since the lily pad was so far away, Filbert had to swim across. While he was swimming Snappy the snake came to eat Filbert.

The frog made it to a lily pad where he was safe, and he was only one swim away from his house, but Snappy the Snake came and blocked his way! Snappy told Filbert that he had scared off Phillis and Feronica and that he would eat him if he tried to swim to his home! Because of this, Filbert was stuck on the lily pad as it continued to rain! | Then Filbert came up with the idea that he could jump on the snakes head then jump off that to his house, so he did....

..... and he made it home where he was safe from the evil Snappy and the rain storm!
