3: Goats were domesticated around 10,000 years ago. Tribes used them for milk, skin, hair, and meat.They are usually kept in herds on a hill or other grazing areas. | They are kept together by a young shepard. They are also used for water and wine transportation.

4: Goat Anatomy

5: Goats are ruminants. This means that they have a four-chambered stomach (Rumen, Reticulum, Omasum, and Abdomasum) | Parts of a Meat Goat: Jaw, Muzzle, Neck, Loin, Thigh, Belly, Ribs, Knee, Chest, Hooves, Tail, etc. | Parts of a Dairy Goat: Head, Shoulders, Back, Legs, Hooves, Udder, Chest, Neck, Tail, Flank, etc.

6: A Healthy Goat | Body Temp: 102.5- 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Pulse/Heart Rate: 60- 80 beats per minute

7: Gestation Period: 150 Days Eyes are clear and bright. | Coat is smooth and Shiny. Goat has a good appetite. | Watch Attitude- Hunched back and droopy tail means something is wrong.

8: Nigerian Dwarf | The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniture goat from West Africa. They are very similar to a large dairy goat. They have a soft short coat, straight nose, and upright ears. Coat can be any color. They are gentle and loveable, make great pets, and are | easy to handle. They provide lots of milk for their size. Can give 3 to 4 lbs per day of 6- 10% butterfat.

9: Alpine | The Alpine goats originated in the Alps. They came to the United States when France brought them over. They generally have short hair. grows longer on the spine, and the males beard is more pronounced. Alpines can live in any sort of climate with good health and excellent production.

10: Golden Guernsey | This is a rare breed that originated off the coast of Britain in the Channel Islands. They are used as dairy goats. They don't produce a lot of milk, but what they do produce is high in proteins and butterfat, which is great for making cheese.

11: Toggenburg | A swiss dairy goat from Toggenburg Valley of Switzerland. They are medium- sized, sturdy, and vigorous. Hair is short or medium length, soft, and fine. Colors vary. Toggenburgs are best in cooler climates. and are known for their high milk production.
